LETTER TO THE EDITOR, CONCORD MONITOR - On Sept. 3, I attended a house
party for Mitt Romney in Ashland. While standing quietly waiting for
Romney to appear, a gentleman approached me and said if I started any
trouble I would be thrown out of the event.
He stated that although the event was open to the public, it was still
private property and I could be asked to leave at any point. He
reiterated I would be tossed out because my "kind" weren't welcome at
such an event.
I am an independent voter who was wearing a pair of jeans and a gray
Bedford, Mass., sweatshirt to show my hometown pride. I was offended
this gentleman would make such a blanket assumption about me. When I
asked where he got the idea I would cause trouble, he stated it was his
"intuition." He said he would keep his eye on me. All the while, he used
his 6-foot frame to intimidate my 5-foot-4-inch body.

LOST NATION - The campaign event Ms. Cunha attended was a publicly
advertised meet-and-greet at the home of Marion Merrill, grandmother of
Jim Merrill who, when he's not getting husky with young women, is
Romney's state director. Later in the day, Romney held an "Ask Mitt
Anything" forum in Nashua. The Ashland gathering was, apparently, a
"Stay Out of My Grill" event.
Earlier this summer Romney operations director, Jay Garrity, resigned
after getting caught impersonating a police officer and threatening to
arrest NH citizens for minding their own business. But oops, one of the
victims happened to be a reporter. It was also revealed that Garrity
distributed police badges to campaign advance staff to gain early
admittance to multi-candidate events and free passage through highway
tolls.
Another Romney brownshirt, Will Ritter, had a MySpace page in which he
described his job as, "very secretive, US special ops involving the
'underbelly of politics.'" At least he got the last part right.

FIRST COUNTY TO USE BAD SEQUOIA VOTING MACHINES VOTES TO END CONTRACT
BRAD BLOG - Considering Riverside County, CA was the first in the nation
to purchase Sequoia Voting Systems malfunctioning, unsecure touch-screen
voting machines for county-wide use in 2000, and that the county's Board
of Supervisors were once the most ardent supporters of the company ---
one of the Supes even going so far as to foolishly bet "1000 to 1" that
the system couldn't be hacked --- the latest news from Riverside, no
doubt, comes as a very bitter pill for the failing voting machine
company.
KESQ - The Riverside County Board of Supervisors Wednesday backed off
plans to purchase vote tabulating machines from a company with which it
has done business for years to avoid risking spending $562,800 for
machines that might not be certified. In a 3-2 vote that came after two
hours of testimony and debate, the board decided to defer purchasing six
400C optical scanning units from Oakland-based Sequoia Voting Systems.
In August, California Secretary of State Debra Bowen, citing security
vulnerabilities, decertified virtually all the e-voting hardware used in
the state, including some machines manufactured by Sequoia. . .

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE BLACK CONGRESSIONAL CAUCUS?
GLENN FORD, BLACK AGENDA`REPORT - The rot in the Congressional Black
Caucus has led the body, as a whole, to vote in opposition to their own
constituents and progressive values in sometimes greater numbers than
the Democratic Caucus. What was once the most progressive political
grouping on Capitol Hill - reflecting the values of the most leftist
demographic in the U.S. - has devolved into a club of corporate
money-takers and hired votes.
The descent of the Congressional Black Caucus has been swift, and
striking. Every instinct of the African American polity is to defend the
CBC - but that is no longer possible. There still remains a progressive
majority in the Black Caucus, but they cannot act effectively within the
organization's structures, which are hitched to corporate funding. The
most dramatic examples are the Caucus's acceptance of funding from
Wal-Mart, and the ill-fated deal they made with arch-racist FOX News to
televise presidential debates. . .
Therefore, progressive CBC members have been forced to work their
legislative initiatives outside of the Black Caucus, which has become a
hostile environment. . .
