Do more to stop global warming »

Last week, a federal judge in Vermont ruled against the U.S. automakers and upheld a state law that regulates greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles. The regulations — adopted by California and 14 other states— would require a 30 percent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions from cars and trucks by 2016. The ruling in Vermont adds enormous momentum to our efforts to reduce America's global warming pollution from automobiles, and to the hard work of our partner non profits such as Environmental Defense, the Natural Resources Defense Council and Sierra Club.

Thanks to the millions of Care2 members who have signed petitions in the past to help curb greenhouse emissions. As you can see, your support is already making a difference.

And we have more reasons to celebrate…

- UNICEF reported that for the first time since record keeping began in 1960, the number of deaths of children under age 5 around the world has fallen below 10 million this year, reflecting progress in areas such as malaria prevention, childhood immunizations and breastfeeding rates. Thank you Care2 members for supporting UNICEF and taking action to save children's lives.

- Florida's Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has postponed a decision on a controversial proposal that would have downlisted manatees from "endangered" to "threatened" on the state's imperiled species list -- a proposal that could seriously undermine protections for manatees. Florida is home to the largest concentration of endangered manatees in the U.S. with an estimated population of more than 3,000. Congratulations to all of the supporters at Care2 and our partner Defenders of Wildlife who took action to protect Florida's manatees.

- The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has finally taken action against Aurora Organic, the nation's largest supplier of "private label" organic milk, for falsely labeling factory farmed milk as "organic". Due to the efforts of thousands of Care2 supporters, the Cornucopia Institute, the Organic Consumers Association and many concerned consumers, the USDA has forced Aurora to admit that they defrauded organic consumers since 2003 by selling millions of dollars of cheap feedlot milk as organic, utilizing intensive confinement of their milk cows and illegally importing calves from non-organic dairy farms.

- And in California, great developments for kids and education: the budget for California's public charter schools was not slashed by $18 million, and the state's ability to create new charter schools was protected. Public charter schools serve students in some of California's most underprivileged communities. Kudos to California Care2 members and to EdVoice for these successes!

As you can see, the collective efforts of Care2 members like you, along with the work of our non-profit partners, are making a difference.

Thank you for all you do and for making Care2 a community capable of real change.

Sincerely,

Care2’s Petition Site campaign teamRosa and your friends at the Care2 Petition Site team.

PS: You can help keep the momentum going in our efforts to stop the terrible consequences of global warming. Don’t let 2007 end without effective global warming legislation in place. Tell Congress the time to act is now »
