Action Alert - Call Your Congressmember:

Stop funding the war! Vote no on emergency war appropriations!

On March 8, the House Appropriations Committee passed a $91 billion supplemental spending bill for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and hurricane relief for the Gulf Coast. At the president's request, $72 billion was earmarked for the continued occupation of Iraq and the Afghanistan war. The appropriation bill will proceed to the full House soon.

For those good-hearted souls who fear that our departure will cause utter chaos and disorder, the fact is our very presence in Iraq is fueling the insurgency and civil unrest. We need to support our troops by bringing them home now. Congress should not spend one more dime, not one more drop of blood on this misbegotten venture into nation building.

It is just plain wrong to attach hurricane relief funding to war spending. It is the responsibility of Congress to create stand-alone legislation for hurricane relief.

It is time for us to set them straight. Call your Congressmember and let him or her know in no uncertain terms: "Stop funding the war!" [take action now]
