REGINA HACKETT, SEATTLE POST INTELLIGENCER - Rachel Corrie's story is
too hot to handle in New York, but not Seattle. Last week, the New York
Theatre Workshop canceled a London production titled "My Name is Rachel
Corrie," slated to open in April. After the news broke, the theater
found itself mired in the controversy it tried to avoid and issued
another statement, saying it would mount the play next season. London
producers said they're looking for a braver New York theater to step up.
So far, none has. . .
Back in New York, NYTW artistic director James Nicola told Playbill News
that he canceled because he and his board "were not confident that we
had the time to create an environment where the art could be heard
independent of the political issues associated with it."
