These days Democratic victories in the Senate are always incredibly hard fought. But, as last year's win in the ongoing battle to protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from Republican oil drilling showed, if we work hard and we work together, we can make a REAL difference. On Tuesday, I asked you to join another critical fight and your response was tremendous. Almost 38,000 Americans have signed on to the Roadless Area Conservation Act as citizen co-sponsors. I cannot emphasize enough the impact of such a display of support. I can tell you first hand that on issues like this, senators notice grassroots action and that it does have a REAL impact. Today, I want us to show that our support is continuing to grow. Please help us get to 50,000 citizen co-sponsors before the end of today. Forward this url to your friends and family and ask for their support on this important issue: http://www.cantwell.com/action/roadless/ There are some policies of the Bush Administration that are reversible. When we take back the Senate we will make quick work of that I can assure you. However, there are also many policies whose consequences are permanent. Once roads are built and this pristine land is opened to development, there is no going back. This is one of those fights that is either won or lost right here, right now. I promise you that I will do everything in my power to protect our nation's forests. I will talk to every senator I can and I will take your names and comments with me. Again, I know that your support can help make a REAL difference. Please help us get as many people involved as we can. Ask your friends to join us now. Forward this link: http://www.cantwell.com/action/roadless/ Thank you for all that you have done and all that you will do to help with these important battles. Sincerely,
Maria Cantwell PS: My staff has been reviewing all the emails that have come in on this, and there have been two requests that I'd like to respond to now. Supporters have asked for the actual text of the legislation, which can be found here: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c109:S.2364: and for the original email to be posted (so you can forward the url to your friends): http://www.cantwell.com/email/20060308/. | ||
