 | Have you heard about BusRadio? It's a new company that swings marketing deals with school districts so that they can advertise to captive audiences of children on their way to school, just as Channel One advertises to them inside the classroom. If you think it's unethical to use compulsory school attendance laws to subject children to advertising, please send a quick email asking more than a dozen companies to stop advertising on Channel One and BusRadio. Take Action: Tell 17 of Channel One and BusRadio’s biggest advertisers not to advertise to children in school Marketing to children is relentless and has harmful effects on children. New research suggests that aggressive marketing to kids contributes not only to excessive materialism, but also to a host of psychological and behavioral problems, including depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, childhood obesity, eating disorders, increased violence, and family stress. If anywhere should be a sanctuary from commercial bombardment, it should be our schools. More than 100 organizations and advocates from across the political spectrum have sent letters to marketers and corporations asking them to not advertise on Channel One and BusRadio. They include Center for a New American Dream, Commercial Alert, the National Parent Teacher Association, Consumers Union, actress Susan Sarandon, pediatrician T. Berry Brazelton, Phyllis Schafley's Eagle Forum, and the American Family Association. Will you add your voice? Take Action: Tell 17 of Channel One and BusRadio’s biggest advertisers not to advertise to children in school In appreciation, Steve, Julia, and Seán - New American Dream's Outreach team p.s. Please pass this action alert on to friends. You know we're counting on you to spread the word because we don't use junk mail to promote any of our campaigns!
