202-232-7112 * www.DemocracyRising.US September 25, 2006 Dear Peace Stalwart, We now have the tools and a strategy to end the war in Iraq and prevent future wars of aggression, but we need your help to make the strategy effective. If your Representative and Senators are not working to stop the war in Iraq and prevent an attack on Iran, please join together with your local peace group, your friends and neighbors to pursue this strategy of increasing pressure.
Then contact your Representative and Senators (www.us.gov. Call their offices to request a meeting or to let them know you will be writing a letter. In the letter or the meeting, tell them, respectfully that you and X numbers of people have signed the "Voters for Peace Pledge" and none of you will vote for them unless they change their position on ending the conflict in Iraq, and the use of military force in Iran. Tell your Representative and Senators, in the letter or meeting, that you will be back in two weeks and with twice as many signatures, because you are going to keep organizing around this issue from now until the elections in November. In your next visit or letter, tell your Representative and/or Senators, that you will be back in another two weeks with twice as many signatures as before. This only requires each of your signers to get one additional pledge signer every two weeks. But, this will result in rapid growth of a network of anti-war activists in your community. And nationally, through coordinated expansion of signers to the "Voters for Peace Pledge," we will build and strengthen the effectiveness of the anti-war/peace movement.
Let us know the names of everyone in your group who signs the "Voters for Peace Pledge" and provide us with their email address so we can build a national movement. This strategy accomplishes a number of objectives: 1. It puts constant pressure on your elected officials.
We, at Democracy Rising look forward to working with you on this important strategy. Sincerely, Kevin Zeese |
