PROSTITUTION AS TRAINING FOR SALES & MARKETING
NEWSWEEK - She was 34 when she signed up to be an escort for Miss
"Julia," a.k.a. Deborah Jeane Palfrey, the alleged "D.C. Madam." The
escort had a B.A., was making close to $60,000 a year as a financial
consultant and belonged to the Rotary Club. She'd arrive at men's hotel
rooms in her office clothes. "I'd look like one of their own," she told
Newsweek, requesting anonymity, "but I'd keep the sheepskin handcuffs
and the little whips in my bag."
The escort says she never told Palfrey - "a great boss" - that she slept
with clients several times a week. She says she misses the work - and
the business and investing advice clients offered. "It was all about
role-playing and packaging yourself," she says. "It's exactly what they
teach you in sales and marketing."

CARL BERNSTEIN, LONDON TIMES - At Hillary's behest, Bill phoned her
friend Betsey Wright in Washington and asked her to come to Little Rock.
Wright, a political organizer from Texas, had moved to Washington in
1973 with the specific idea of advancing the electoral career of Hillary
Rodham. She had no doubt that Hillary could have reached the Senate or
perhaps the presidency on her own. . .

DAILY MAIL, UK - The police may be given the power to interrogate
individuals about who they are, where they have been and where they are
going. Officers would thus be able to gain information about 'matters

refused to answer questions, they could be charged with a criminal
offence and fined up to L5,000. . .

AP - The Alabama Department of Homeland Security has taken down a Web
site it operated that included gay rights and anti-war organizations in
a list of groups that could include terrorists. The Web site identified
different types of terrorists, and included a list of groups it believed
could spawn terrorists. The list also included environmentalists, animal

NATE ANDERSON, ARSTECHNICA A new industry-backed Copyright Alliance was
launched in Washington, DC, with the goal of "promoting the value of
copyright as an agent for creativity, jobs, and growth." But the group
wants to do more than simply get the word out about the value of
copyright - it wants to actively strengthen current copyright law.
Backed by organizations like the MPAA, NBC, News Corp., Disney, Time
Warner, the Business Software Alliance, Microsoft, ASCAP, the NBA, and
others, the Copyright Alliance has already secured initial support from
several members of Congress. Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) and "Hollywood"
Howard Berman (D-CA) both sent statements of support, and Rep. Howard
Coble (R-NC) made sure that the launch was a bipartisan affair. . .

DC MADAM
WAYNE MADSEN REPORT - The Justice Department filed a motion before US
District Judge Gladys Kessler on May 23 to maintain the gag order
against Washington Madam Deborah Jeane Palfrey and her attorneys from
releasing the names of any additional customers of Pamela Martin &
Associates. . . There is speculation that not having access to the
Pamela Martin phone records before, the government received copies,
perhaps from a major news media organization in a quid pro quo
arrangement, and ascertained the importance of some of the names on the
phone records that dated from 2002 to 2006. The government, therefore,
rushed a midnight gag order extension request to the US Court for the
District of Columbia. It remains a mystery why the corporate media
failed to file an amicus curiae brief before Judge Kessler in support of
informing the public about an important news story. The corporate media
was quick to file an amicus brief in support of the former American
Israel Public Affairs Committee employees' espionage case in support of
the release of classified information withheld by the government.

EARTH TIMES - The US Food and Drug Administration has rejected appeals
to lift a ban that prevents gay men from donating blood, stating that
such a measure is important to fight the rising spread of AIDS. FDA
spokeswoman Karen Riley said that 24 year old policy is not unique to
just the US, pointing out that a European Union directive agrees with
its viewpoint that transfusion process using blood donated by gays could
spread HIV, hepatitis B and other infections. . . The Red Cross has led
the campaign against the FDA to overturn the ban on gay men donating
blood, stating that the policy prevents potentially healthy donors from
donating when there is a scarcity of blood in hospitals. However FDA
points out to data collected from 1997, which has found that the
prevalence of HIV is 60 times higher in gay community than in normal
population.
