Dear Friends,
On behalf of FOAVC, I'd like to wish all FOAVC members a safe and joyous holiday season. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
We'd also like to take this occasion to ask all FOAVC members to consider helping out FOAVC by helping to spread the word about FOAVC and an Article V Convention on the Internet. To accomplish this, we'd like to ask all members to consider setting up a Google Alert email account. For those who are not familiar with this free service offered by Google, Google Alerts is a service whereby a user can set up an account and have daily emails listing links to various blogs, news sites and websites that discuss whatever subject title the user wishes to know about. The interval of emails can be controlled by the user. This service may be terminated at any time and is entirely in the control of the user. I'm sure many of our members already use Google Alerts. The address for Google Alerts is: http://www.google.com/alerts .
We'd like to ask that all members consider adding alerts that focus on Article V Convention and, as they find these blogs, websites or news sites, post responses to them in support of FOAVC and an Article V Convention. We suggest that "FOAVC" be listed as a subject in your Google Alerts. Also, "Article V of the Constitution" and, while FOAVC does not prescribe to the term, our opponents do, so we suggest the term "constitutional convention" as one of the terms used in Google Alerts.
What we'd like to ask our membership is that as you come across these blogs, news sites and websites that you refer people by means of postings, to our FOAVC web site where they can read the actual applications, learn about an Article V Convention on our FAQ page and read the various articles about the convention. Many of these blogs and other sites contain erroneous information and it is important that people get the full truth about an Article V Convention. Only by informing them that our site exists thus presenting them the opportunity to view both sides of the issue, can we hope to combat the deluge of misinformation about an Article V Convention. By posting to these sites, you can help do that.
What should you say? We'll that entirely up to you but here is one example that you may encounter. Often you might across a posting which says that "32 states have applied for a balanced budget amendment and we are only two more away from a convention call"or words to this effect. The article will go on to describe every possible doom conceivable as to why a convention should not be held. We'd like to suggest you simply ask readers to go to the FOAVC site and read the facts and truth about a convention. Our website is www.foavc.org . Feel free to use any material as reference or link on our site in your comments. For the record, there are over 650 applications submitted by all 50 states for an Article V Convention. Counting those already posted and those in process, we estimate the final number of applications could be between 675 and 700 applications. Also, for the record, a total of 37 states have applied regarding the balanced budget amendment issue meaning on that issue alone, three more states than is required for a convention call have been submitted. Simply telling them these two facts demonstrates the people who make these claims simply don't know what they are talking about and your post need be no longer than two or three sentences if you prefer. You could also point out that the Constitution requires a convention call on the part of Congress and that it is "peremptory."
For those who wish to provide links from your postings, our link to our application page listing all the 650 amendment applications is: http://foavc.org/file.php/1/Amendments/index.htm .Our FAQ page link is: http://www.article-5.org/mod/resource/view.php?id=60 .
Finally, if anyone has any questions as to what they should say or needs any other answers, please feel free to contact me. Again I wish everyone a happy and safe Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Thank you to one and all for the support and effort you've all given FOAVC.
