AP - Roman Catholic Archbishop Raymond Burke, who made headlines last
presidential season by saying he'd refuse Holy Communion to John Kerry,
has his eye on Rudy Giuliani this year. Giuliani's response:
"Archbishops have a right to their opinion."

LA TIMES - A federal judge in Washington ordered the U.S. not to
transfer a detainee held in U.S. custody in Afghanistan without giving
30 days' notice to his attorney. U.S. District Judge Gladys Kessler
issued the ruling on behalf Haji Rohullah, who worked as a driver before
being taken into custody by the U.S. in August 2006 at a farm owned by
his family in Jalalabad. The judge's ruling marks a milestone in legal
challenges to the Bush administration's practice of indefinitely
detaining people in the war on terror, said New York attorney Tina
Monshipour Foster, executive director of the International Justice
Network and one of Rohullah's attorneys.

THE BELLWETHER DAILY - A Cleveland Plain Dealer internal memo from last
week urges reporters to keep things simple. Plain English and short,
uncomplicated sentences are best. It notes that Sen. Sherrod Brown's
spouse, columnist Connie Schultz, has written at a level appropriate for
fifth graders. Meanwhile, Washington bureau reporter Sabrina Eaton seems
to be rebuked. The memo says she wrote about Dennis Kucinich at a level
appropriate for high school seniors, or subscribers to The New York
Times. Her "reading ease" score was low.

YAHOO - The number of Americans who see themselves among the "have-nots"
of society has doubled over the past two decades, from 17% in 1988 to
34% today. In 1988, far more Americans said that, if they had to choose,
they probably were among the "haves" (59%) rather than the "have-nots"
(17%). Today this gap is far narrower (45% "haves" vs. 34% "have-nots").
