DEMOCRATS FOR AND AGAINST THE CONSTITUTION

||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

DOUG IRELAND - Here are the names of those who voted with the
administration to give it increased surveillance and wiretap authority
on Americans with no court approval. The Senate vote was 60-28 , with
these 16 Dems voting with the Republicans. It took a long time to ID
these perps. Lincoln AR Pryor AR Feinstein CA Salazar CO Carper DE
Nelson FL Inouye HI Bayh IN Landrieu LA Mikulski MD McCaskill MI
Klobuchar MN Conrad MT Nelson NE Casey PA Webb VA

[Ireland notes that it "at least 11 Dems were missing in action." We
don't have their names yet because, curiously, at this writing the
Senate has yet to list the final vote- TPR]

In the house, only 14 Dems (half from the three west coast states) stood
up against Pelosi's "Bush lite" version of the bill: Blumenauer(OR),
Capuano(MA), Filner(CA), Holt(NJ),Inslee(WA), Kuchinich(O),Michaud (ME),
McDermott(WA), McGovern (MD )Olver (MA), Stark (CA),Welch (VT),
Woosley(CA) and Waters (CA). But although the House voted 218-207 for
the bill, it failed because a rule required a 2/3 majority (290). The
next day, the Senate version passed with only nine more votes (227-183)
because its rule required a simple majority. At least on this vote only
the most reactionary Dems voted for it.
