Tell Congress to Eliminate Offensive "Anti-Drug" Propaganda
I know you've seen the absurd and offensive government ads claiming that using marijuana supports terrorism and causes people to shoot their friends in the face, run over little girls on bikes, and become pregnant. Most recently, the commercials even claim that if you smoke pot a cartoon space alien will steal your girlfriend.
Really.
Even though prominent studies repeatedly show that these ridiculous ads actually cause more - not less - teen drug use, Congress has spent more than $1.5 billion on them since 1998 and could dump another $130 million into the program next year - unless you act now.
Students for Sensible Drug Policy has made it easy for you to take action against the ads. All you have to do is visit http://www.ssdp.org/ads/ and enter your name and contact information. A prewritten letter will be sent directly to your legislators in Washington, DC, asking them to cut funding from the ad campaign.
The National Taxpayers Union called the ads "completely ineffective." Citizens Against Government Waste called them an "utter failure." Even an internal White House review gave the campaign a score of just 6 out of 100 for "results and accountability."
Responding to the mounting evidence against the ads' effectiveness, Congress cut the program's funding by 44% over the past six years. But the government will still dump $130 million of your money into the propaganda ads next year - unless you do something!
Please visit http://www.ssdp.org/ads/ to help completely eliminate the ads so that no more taxpayer dollars are wasted on this asinine propaganda campaign.
(In other news: A few weeks ago we asked you to take action against the harmful law that strips financial aid from college students with drug convictions. Your response was so overwhelming that we've heard that the Senate HELP Committee is close to finalizing a bill that will significantly scale back the penalty - if not take away its enforcement altogether. I'll be sure to let you know as soon as we hear something final.)
Thank you for your efforts to protect young people from senseless Drug War policies.
Sincerely,
Kris Krane
