if you are going to quit facebook do it this week. there is a window that allows you to retain all your intellectual property, even after you quit. it's going to close soon and it wouldn't be there at all if 52,000 of us hadn't quit and complained and threatened to sue. they changed their terms of agreement on feb 4th, 2009 that allowed them to keep your info forever.

they backpedaled wed. morning at 2am, just before the suit was filed and are now putting together a facebook 'bill of rights'. that's where these people make their money...selling your profile, photos....

when you quit, be sure and say it was over 'privacy concerns and that you want to control your own intellectual property'. that should keep you safe. they'll still sell your stuff, but if you want control over it [copyright for photos] you have to do it this week.

i posted one comment...(that stated) ¡°i still didn't know what i wanted to be when i grow up¡±. i started getting lots of 'career' oriented spam. too invasive after this week in facebook everything you post or say, you could be voluntarily giving up. that's the way it was from feb 4th until yesterday.

Our gravest threat to stability and national security

February 17, 2009: US Director of US National Intelligence, Adm. Dennis Blair, testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee. He warned that the deepening economic crisis posed perhaps our gravest threat to stability and national security. It could trigger, he said, a return to the "violent extremism" of the 1920s and 1930s. Blair fears, social upheaval.

The United Nations' International Labor Organization estimates that some 50 million workers will lose their jobs worldwide this year. The collapse has already seen 3.6 million lost jobs in the United States.

Did the DoD or CIA covertly infiltrate the FBI to hinder FBI investigations?

Feb. 23, 2009: Sibel D. Edmonds, the former FBI (contract linguist) translator turned whistleblower tells a chilling story of corruption at Washington's highest levels—sale of nuclear secrets, shielding of terrorist suspects, illegal arms transfers, narcotics trafficking, money laundering, espionage. She tells of a treasonous plot to embed moles in American military and nuclear installations and pass sensitive intelligence to Israeli, Pakistani, and Turkish sources was facilitated by figures in the upper echelons of the State and Defense Departments. After five years of thwarted legal challenges, Sibel Edmonds is telling her story, though her defiance could land her in jail.

Edmonds is an ethnic Azerbaijani, born in Iran. She lived there and in Turkey until 1988, when she emigrated to the United States, where she received degrees in criminal justice and psychology from George Washington University. In Sept 2001, Edmonds took a job at the FBI as a Turkish and Farsi translator. She worked in the 400-person translations section of the Washington office, reviewing a backlog of material dating back to 1997 and participating in (FBI)operations directed against several Turkish front groups, most notably the American Turkish Council (ATC).

A Business Association dedicated to enhancing the promotion of US-Turkish Commercial, Defense, Technology and Cultural Relations .

The ATC, founded in 1994 was intended to promote Turkish interests in Congress and in other public forums. The group's founders include a number of prominent Americans involved in the Israel-Turkey relationship, notably Henry Kissinger, Brent Scowcroft, Richard Perle, Douglas Feith, and former congressman Stephen Solarz. Perle and Feith had earlier been registered lobbyists for Turkey through Feith's company, International Advisors Inc. The FBI was interested in ATC because it suspected that the group derived at least some of its income from drug trafficking, Turkey being the source of 90 percent of the heroin that reaches Europe, and because of reports that it had given congressmen illegal contributions or bribes. Moreover, as Edmonds told the Times, the Turks have "often acted as a conduit for the Inter-Services Intelligence, Pakistan's spy agency, because they were less likely to attract attention."

For over six months, Edmonds, 37, worked in the Language Division of the FBI translating documents and FBI wiretap audio tapes. She listened to hundreds of intercepted phone calls between Turkish, Pakistani, Israeli, and American officials. When she voiced concerns about the processing of this intelligence—among other irregularities, one of the other translators maintained a friendship with one of the FBI's "high value" targets—she was threatened. After exhausting all appeals through her own chain of command, Edmonds approached the two Department of Justice agencies with oversight of the FBI and sent faxes to Sens. Chuck Grassley and Patrick Leahy on the Judiciary Committee. The next day, she was called in for a polygraph. According to a DOJ inspector general's report, the test found that "she was not deceptive in her answers."

But two weeks later, Edmonds was fired; her home computer was seized; her family in Turkey was visited by police and threatened with arrest if they did not submit to questioning about an unspecified "intelligence matter."

When Edmonds's attorney filed suit to obtain the documents related to her firing, Atty. Gen. John Ashcroft imposed the state-secrets gag order. Since then, she has been subjected to another federal order, which not only silenced her, but retroactively classified the statements she eventually made before the Senate Judiciary Committee and the 9/11 Commission.

Her allegations are not insignificant. Edmonds claims that Marc Grossman—ambassador to Turkey from 1994-97 and undersecretary of state for political affairs from 2001-05—was a person of interest to the FBI and had his phone tapped by the Bureau in 2001 and 2002. In the third-highest position at State, Grossman wielded considerable power personally and within the Washington bureaucracy. He had access to classified information of the highest sensitivity from the CIA, NSA, and Pentagon, in addition to his own State Department. On one occasion, Grossman was reportedly recorded making arrangements to pick up a cash bribe of $15,000 from an ATC contact. The FBI also intercepted related phone conversations between the Turkish Embassy and the Pakistani Embassy that revealed sensitive U.S. government information was being sold to the highest bidder.

Grossman emphatically denies Edmonds's charges. He is currently vice chairman of the Cohen Group, founded by Clinton defense secretary William Cohen, where he reportedly earns a seven-figure salary, much of it coming from representing Turkey.

After 9/11, Grossman reportedly intervened with the FBI to halt the interrogation of four Turkish and Pakistani operatives. According to Edmonds, Grossman was called by a Turkish contact who told him that the men had to be released before they told what they knew. Grossman said that he would take care of it and, per Edmonds, the men were released and allowed to leave the country.

Edmonds states that FBI phone taps from late 2001 reveal that Grossman tipped off his Turkish contact regarding the CIA cover unit Brewster Jennings. CIA was using this front company to investigate weapons proliferation and is where CIA officer Valerie Plame had worked. The Turk then informed the Pakistani intelligence service representative in Washington. It is to be assumed that the information was then passed on to the A.Q. Khan nuclear proliferation network.

Edmonds also claims that Grossman was instrumental in seeding Turkish and Israeli Ph.D. students into major American research labs by (helping them get) visas and enabling security clearances. She says that she reviewed transcripts in which the moles in the U.S. military and academic community involved in nuclear technology reportedly carried out several "transactions" involving the sale of nuclear material or information relating to nuclear programs every month, with Pakistan being a primary buyer.

She claims that in the summer of 2000, the FBI recorded a meeting between a Turkish official and two Saudi businessmen in Detroit in which nuclear information stolen from an Air Force base in Alabama was offered: "We have a package and we're going to sell it for $250,000," the wiretap allegedly recorded. "The network appeared to be obtaining information from every nuclear agency in the United States."

She also states that beginning in 1999, the FBI was investigating senior Pentagon officials who were assisting agents of foreign governments, including Turkey and Israel. Edmonds has not publicly named names at the Pentagon, but a website linked to her appears to be a non-incriminating instrument for identifying suspects without doing so directly. Its "rogues gallery" includes photos of Richard Perle and Douglas Feith. Perle was chief of the Pentagon's prestigious Defense Policy Board when Edmonds was working at the FBI, and Feith was undersecretary of defense for policy.

If either were being investigated, it would be a matter of record, as would any reasons for dropping the investigation. "If you made public all the information that the FBI have on this case, you will see very high-level people going through criminal trials," Edmonds told the Times.

She claims to have also learned that corrupt officials in the Turkish and Israeli Ministries of Defense falsified end-user certificates on weapons purchased in the United States to enable sales to third countries not allowed access to the technology. Principal recipients include the five "Stans" in central Asia—Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan.

Edmonds says that former House speaker Dennis Hastert and at least two other congressmen were investigated as suspected recipients of illegal political contributions or even bribes from Turkish sources. Her website gallery includes photos of Congressmen Roy Blount, Dan Burton, and Tom Lantos, though she has not otherwise implicated any of the three directly.

Edmonds's claims that the section was infiltrated by translators who should never have received security clearances and who were deliberately failing to translate incriminating material are supported by the Justice Department inspector general investigation and by an FBI internal investigation, which concluded that she had been fired after making "valid complaints."

One translator, Melek Can Dickerson, who had worked for three Turkish front organizations under investigation—she failed to reveal this when applying for employment—allegedly stamped many documents of interest "not pertinent," removed classified documents from FBI premises, and forged signatures on classified documents relating to 9/11 detainees.

Dickerson suggests to her FBI boss that each translator be permanently responsible for certain targets. Included with her proposal is a list of recommended assignments for each of the department's translators. Under the proposed arrangement, she would be assigned to the phone lines of the American-Turkish Council (ATC) along with three other "high-value" diplomatic targets.

Linguists are more qualified and consequently have broader roles. For example, while linguists can to do verbatim translations, monitors may only produce summaries. Dickerson was a monitor. [Anti-War (.com), 7/1/2004] ) From this point on, none of the recorded conversations for these targets will be reviewed by an official department linguist, or any other translator for that matter. She had exclusive access to her targets' wiretapped communications. She begins marking as "not pertinent" wiretapped conversations that concern certain high-value surveillance targets working at the American-Turkish Council (ATC).

NOTE: What we probably have going on here is DoD or CIA agents (Dickersons) who have penetrated the FBI in order to disrupt the FBI's counter-espionage investigations.

During a visit to Sidal Edmonds and her husband, by Dickerson and her husband, it appeared to the Edmonds that the Dickersons had tried to recruit Sidal to spy for some organization(s). Edmonds immediately reported this suspicious visit to her FBI supervisor Mike Feghali in Dec. 2001. Initially she was told to "hush it" and not talk about it.

Feghali tells her not to worry and that he will immediately file a report with the security department. [Anti-War (.com), 7/1/2004; Vanity Fair, 9/2005] (The security department later tells Edmonds they received no such report [Anti-War (.com), 7/1/2004; Boston Globe, 7/5/2004] .)

Then she reported to mid-management at the FBI and finally she went to FBI Director Mueller. She was later fired and told she was being fired because she reported this information to FBI Headquarters. She was threatened as she escorted out of her FBI work place that the FBI will be watching her and the FBI didn't need to give her a reason as to why she was being fired. everyone in the Language Division was talking about the Dickersons.

FBI translator Melek Can Dickerson, was known to have worked for the American Turkish Council (ATC) and the Assembly of Turkish American Associations (ATAA). These organizations were known to be targets of FBI counterintelligence operations. Dickerson had had a relationship with a Turkish intelligence officer stationed in Washington who was the target of that investigation.

US Air Force Douglas Dickerson, the husband of Melek Can Dickerson, was working for Douglas Feith at the Pentagon. He was the US Air Force major who procures weapons from the US for various Central Asian and Middle Eastern countries.

He had previously worked with Marc Grossman in Turkey. Douglas Dickerson worked in weapons procurement in Turkey from approximately 1992-1997, based in the attache in Ankara, working under then-Ambassador Marc Grossman.

In the summer of 2002, while Melek Can Dickerson was being investigated, the Pentagon IG was also investigating Douglas Dickerson regarding these espionage charges/allegations. The official letter sent by the Pentagon specifically mentions Dickerson's involvement with the American Turkish Council.

Melek Can Dickerson and Douglas Dickerson, were permitted to leave the country while under active investigations by the US Senate Judiciary, by the Department of Justice's Inspector General (IG), by the Pentagon's IG, and by FBI.

Another report indicated that in 1995, while in Turkey, Douglas Dickerson was the subject of investigation for accepting money from foreign agents, whereupon he was abruptly transferred to Germany.

In 2001, Douglas Dickerson was apparently given a position in the weapons systems acquisition arena with the Pentagon and US Department of State. Dickerson's areas of responsibility supposedly included Turkey, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. He also had dealings with Eric Edelman, formerly US Ambassador to Turkey and now with the Pentagon's Policy Organization. Dickerson was also active with ATC and Scowcroft. He and his wife associated with several Turkish and American individuals from the Turkish Embassy and the ATC. Many of these folks were targeted by FBI counterintelligence for criminal activity.

In 2002, Douglas Dickerson and his spouse, Melek Can, left the country for Belgium and a quiet post with NATO after Edmonds exposed their attempted their activities.

Douglas Dickerson was recently deployed to the Iraqi theater of operations where he heads up logistics matters for an element of the USAF.

In another case, an Urdu translator was the daughter of a Pakistani Embassy employee who worked for Gen. Mahmoud Ahmad, the head of the Pakistani intelligence service who is accused of authorizing a $100,000 wire transfer to Mohammed Atta's Dubai bank account immediately before 9/11.

Edmonds's revelations have attracted corroboration in the form of anonymous letters apparently written by FBI employees. There have been frequent reports of FBI field agents being frustrated by the premature closure of cases dealing with foreign spying, particularly when those cases involve Israel, and the State Department has frequently intervened to shut down investigations based on "sensitive foreign diplomatic relations."

One such anonymous letter, the veracity of which cannot be determined, cites transcripts of wiretaps involving Marc Grossman and a Turkish Embassy official between August and December 2001, described above, in which Grossman warned the Turk that Brewster Jennings was a CIA cover company. If the allegation can be documented from FBI files, the exposure of the Agency cover mechanism took place long before journalist Robert Novak outed the company in his column on Valerie Plame in 2003. The anonymous informant conveniently provides the FBI file number containing the transcripts of the recorded conversations: FBI Washington Field Office, Counterintelligence Division, Turkish Unit File 203A-WF-210023. According to the source, the FBI also recorded a subsequent conversation in which a Turkish official contacted the Pakistani Embassy to inform an ISI officer of Grossman's warning. The FBI also reportedly informed the CIA of the Grossman conversations to determine if there was any "conflict of interest," presumably to determine if the CIA was running its own operation that might be compromised as a result of the phone tap.

Curiously, the states-secrets gag order binding Edmonds, while put in place by DOJ in 2002, was not requested by the FBI but by the State Department and Pentagon.

Under the Bush administration, the security gag order has been invoked to cover up incompetence or illegality, not to protect national security. It has recently been used to conceal the illegal wiretaps of the warrantless surveillance program, the allegations of torture and the CIA's rendition program, and to shield the telecom industry for its collaboration in illegal eavesdropping.

Both Senators Grassley and Leahy, a Republican and a Democrat, who interviewed her at length in 2002, attest to Edmonds's believability. Former FBI senior counterintelligence officer John Cole has independently confirmed her report of the presence of Pakistani intelligence service penetrations within the FBI translators' pool.

Edmonds claims that a number of FBI agents would be willing to testify, though she has not named them.

Edmonds's critics clearly do not understand the intimate relationship that develops between FBI and CIA officers and their translators. Operations run against a foreign target in languages other than English require an intensive collaboration between field officers and translators. The translators are invariably brought into the loop because it is up to them to guide the officers seeking to understand what the target, who frequently is double talking or attempting to conceal his meaning, is actually saying.

Sibel Edmonds makes a number of accusations about specific criminal behavior that appear to be extraordinary but are credible enough to warrant official investigation. Her allegations are documentable: an existing FBI file should determine whether they are accurate. It's true that she probably knows only part of the story, but if that part is correct, Congress and the Justice Department should have no higher priority. Nothing deserves more attention than the possibility of ongoing national-security failures and the proliferation of nuclear weapons with the connivance of corrupt senior government officials.

Oct 25, 2006, Former USAF general Joseph Ralston, and now Lockheed Martin employee and American Turkish Council principal, is the special envoy/coordinator for US-Turkey anti-Kurdish operations. In October 2006, the US Congress approved the sale of 30 of F-16 combat aircraft worth $2.9 billion to Turkey.

"General Joseph W. Ralston, the US government's Special Envoy who is responsible for countering the terrorist PKK and coordinating actions and eliminationist strategies with the Turkish and Iraqi states . . . [He] . . . just so happens to be a member of the Board of Directors of Lockheed Martin, the same corporation whose deal for the sale of 30 F-16s [to Turkey] sits in the venerable halls of Congress at this very moment." F-16s it must be remembered, were needed during Turkey's genocidal War on Terror during the 1990s because of their usefulness in obliterating Kurdish settlements.

It is widely known that the Turkish military used Lockheed Martin F-16s to assist with the destruction of Kurdish villages in North Kurdistan during the 1990s Dirty War, with the facts well documented by human rights groups. In 1995, Human Rights Watch documented arms sales to Turkey, along with related violations of the laws of war by that state . . ."[It] included the many gross abuses that Turkey . . . perpetrated against the Kurdish people [with] the F-16 fighter jet figure[ing] prominently . . . In a report ordered by the [US] Congress, the State Department admitted that the abuses included the use of US Cobra helicopters, armored personnel carriers, and F-16 fighter bombers. In some instances, critics say, entire Kurdish villages were obliterated from the air.

"This proposed [new multi-billion dollar] sale in 2006, the [Pentagon] has claimed, will enhance the Turkish Air Force's ability to defend Turkey, no doubt against its internal Kurdish threat in [the Kurdish] colony in the southeast, and its external one in southern Kurdistan/Northern Iraq . . .

http://onlinejournal.com/artman/publish/article_1355.shtml

Turkey and Israel have most in common is a trio of enemies: Syria, Iraq, and Iran.

November 29, 2005 The Jewish lobby has for years befriended the Turkish lobby. No one seriously disputes this (also see http://www.hairenik.com/armenianweekly/april_2003/politics001.html ).

Indeed, Armenian genocide resolutions in Congress, acknowledged The Jerusalem Post, "have been snuffed out by Turkey and its right-hand man on this issue, the Israel lobby."

The lobbies' friendship grew out of the bond between Israel and Turkey, who share an aversion to much of the Arab world and Iran.

Having worked their way into the media, academia, think tanks, and government—most notably the Bush administration—Neocons are immensely influential. Being pro-Israel hawks, they are, not surprisingly, strongly pro-Turkish.

As far back as 16 years ago, for example, two former members of the current administration, Neocons Douglas Feith and Richard Perle, founded International Advisors Inc., which registered as a foreign agent for Turkey. IAI, said journalist Jason Vest, helped to "quash a U.S. Senate resolution marking ... the Armenian genocide."

Feith left Reagan's National Security Council in 1982 after the FBI suspected him of passing classified information to Israel. Perle was reportedly suspected of the same thing a decade earlier.

In fairness, we must also recognize that scores of Jewish and Israeli academicians and elected officials have generally been supportive of Armenians and have acknowledged the Armenian genocide.

Undersecretary of Defense Larry Franklin (a Neocon, but Catholic) pled guilty this fall to passing classified information about Iran to Israeli embassy officer Nair Gilon and lobbyists Steven Rosen and Keith Weissman of AIPAC (America Israel Public Affairs Committee). Gilon fled the United States, and Rosen and Weissman are due to go on trial.

Larry Franklin's boss at the Pentagon was than Douglas Feith, the Neocon Turkish lobbyist and former FBI suspect.

Under President Ronald Reagan, prominent Jewish American Richard Perle became a paid ($231,000) lobbyist for Turkey and, working alongside Israel, reportedly quashed a Senate resolution in 1989 on the Armenian Genocide.

Turks look down upon Arabs and still resent their revolt against the Turkish Empire in World War I. Turkey has angered Syria and Iraq by limiting the flow of water from the Euphrates and Tigris rivers. Likewise, Syria had infuriated Turkey by hosting the anti-Turkish fighters of the Kurdish PKK until 1998.

Israel earns billions when it upgrades Turkish weapons, such as F-4 jets, and when Turkey purchases Israeli weapons, such as Popeye air-to- surface missiles and, possibly, the partly American-funded Homa/Arrow anti-ballistic missile system. Whereas Western countries sometimes hesitate to sell Turkey weapons due to human rights concerns, Israeli analyst Efrain Inbar says his country "is not as scrupulous as most nations in the world in this area [selling weapons]."

http://www.armeniapedia.org/index.php?title=Scandalized:_Neocons_and_the_Jewish_and_Turkish_lobbies

The two countries trade intelligence data on common adversaries and, almost certainly, on Cyprus, Greece, and even Armenians. Israel reportedly flies spy planes and has electronic listening posts along Turkey's southern border.

Israeli Air Force pilots drill Turkish counterparts in combat techniques, and, in return, get to hone their own skills in Turkey's expansive airspace.

The present strategy of Ankara (and the US State Department) to penetrate the Muslim/Turkic nations of the former Soviet Union such as Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan--all of which are sitting on oil and gas reserves--fits Tel Aviv's own ambitions.

As part of its long-standing "periphery" strategy, Israel seeks friends among distant non-Arab Muslim nations in order to counter nearby Arab Muslim hostility. In the last decade, Israel has established relationships, especially in the field of agriculture, with all six former Soviet Muslim countries.

Israel also hopes to see oil and gas exported from the Caspian Basin, not just for itself but also to lessen the West's dependence on Arab oil and thus reduce Arab leverage against the West. Hence, Israel supports the proposed oil pipeline from Azerbaijan to Turkey.

In 2001, a major Jewish organization in Maryland tried to stop the state from passing an Armenian Genocide resolution. Legislator Cheryl Kagan, who also happens to sit on the board of the American Jewish Committee, termed the Genocide "an alleged massacre" and compared the bill to one designating "the official state cat." Fortunately, the resolution passed anyway. Tel Aviv, like Washington, keeps Turkey happy by employing euphemisms such as Armenian "tragedy" rather than "genocide."

Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz, President Bush's chief foreign policy strategist, is fervently pro-Turkish. Noted Jewish political analyst Dr. Daniel Pipes acknowledges that "to make its case," Turkey "counts on American Jews such as" Defense Undersecretary Douglas Feith, Defense Policy Board chairman Richard Perle, and Prof. Bernard Lewis (a Genocide denier and Bush advisor), as well as on Jewish "institutions."

Nine leading Jewish American organizations formally asked President AWOL Bush to provide Turkey "debt forgiveness, trade concessions, and/or further [loan] relief."
