In his Inaugural Address, John F. Kennedy exhorted us: 'Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country!"

And in his golden voice, with its Massachusetts's accent and ringing timbre, he also intoned, "Let the word go forth...that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans..."

Now it's time to transfer the ownership of that flame with all that it signifies yet again.

Who will bear the torch, keep the flame burning, and renew the promise of this great nation?

Who but Barack Obama and Joe Biden?!

Only they prove fit and able to step up to the challenge.

The Republican taste of nasty, accusatory rhetoric has dried with a horrible aftertaste in America's mouths. Too many years of bloodshed, haggard diplomacy, and financial disaster have taught us the harsh lessons of this early millennium.

Let's get real - down dirty and personal!

Sarah Palin's new wardrobe has earned her no respect, as she continues to make gaff after gaff in speech after speech.

John McCain's orations remain replete with ragged mentions of "Joe the plumber."

But another Joe, Senator Biden, hit the nail on the head with a heavy hammer here in Pueblo, Colorado when he said to the nation, as his father had said to him: "Get up, champ, and get back in the game! America, get up!"

The game he was referring to is, of course, that of how we run this country, with a government not just for it, but by it.

We've come to a unique crossroads at a time unparalleled in our history.

Pretty much the entirety of the State of the Union stinks with the odor of mismanagement. I reference the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, our beleaguered diplomatic relations, the threat of Iran to wipe Israel from the face of the earth, our dependence upon foreign oil, Putin's new alliances with Venezuela's Hugo Chavéz and war games with arms sales to compliment it, the ongoing ethnic cleansing in Georgia next to Russia, the lethal atrocities of Dar Fur, the starvation and disease in not just third world countries but our own, the North Korean threat, worldwide inflation, and the beleaguered environment becoming ever yet more violent with its weather.

Of course, I could go on, but I would find myself applying the same damning epithets to every other situation I could conceive of mentioning.

Where will it all end?

It's my hope that it will all come to terms with a new, and Democratic term in the White House and both Congressional houses!

57 years old,B.A. Theatre University of Wyoming 1975, Master of Fine Arts, Technical Theatre emphasis on scenic design, University of North Carolina,Chapel Hill 1983. Roman Catholic, Judeo-Christian Bhuddist. Professions are, some continue to be: professor of theatre, actor, singer, composer, lyricist, playwright of full length adult, and children's plays, free-lance writer. My University teaching was short lived, and over the years, having had many surgeries, now experiencing a personal & professional renaissance, making writer submissions in many different genres. Off morphine FINALLY after multiple cervical spinal surgeries, now, as I would say in song lyrics: "I love the life I live, and live the life I love!" As I can sing it, nearly exactly like Sinatra: "Regrets - I've had a few, but then, again, too few to mention...I did it MY WAY!" - taking for myself the "road less travelled." 14 years divorced from a marriage of 13 years. My origin is entirely Italian: Siciliano and Molisane. I've traced both sides of my family genealogy to the early 1700s through civil records. A gourmet cook and lover of wines, I hope to publish in coming months as a critic for "Gourmet" or "Bon Apetít" - covering southeastern and mountainous Colorado and northern New Mexico. An unabashed Democrat and liberal, my memories of Republican administrations treatment of my family are ENTIRELY negative, with uncle Joe(married to my father's sister), and father, Pascal, BOTH railroaders. Nero fiddled,Rome burned. Eisenhower golfed, tricky Dick lied, Reagan Trickled down - we suffered! I'm a devout Roman Catholic, Judeo-Christian Bhuddist. Still single, loving the ladies, I believe in offering well deserved gratuitous compliments as a gentleman. As for experience, except for travel to Europe, South America, Africa, and Asia (a BIG gap I'll narrow in coming years!) I've pretty well "been there-done that!" You will find that I have a political blog for Obama attached to the below website. By nature a romantic, I believe in love at first sight, having wisdom enough now to know that "falling in love" is not so easy as "standing in love!" People find me amiable, cheerful, and gracious by nature, welcoming kindred souls to my life - particularly those involved in writing, songwriting, and many different arts. Having adapted many Neapolitan Italian songs into quite singable English versions, I believe in faithfully elucidating, not changing, the original meaning of each opus. My beliefs are such that I consider some of us,whether by God's mysterious direction or karmic choice, are put on this earth to bring joy and truth, as well as fight for right, not just for one's self, but for ALL people - particularly the downtrodden. Folks interested in cuisine, history, genealogy, languages, heraldry, singing...will find in my life a warm and safe port. I trust each person met, unless experience proves that vain. Among my favorite affirmations: "I have all that I need to be happy." "What goes around DEFINITELY comes around!" "We are each seeking a path of return to God however we conceive Deity." "I am whole, complete, happy, prosperous, powerful, and deserving." "Have a care, my dear friend, what you think, what you say, what you do every day. And beware! In the end, in a blink, maybe two, what you think and you do, you become all too soon, come what may to you all in fair trade. So take care, lest in words you will end self-betrayed!" Online, or in person you will find me agreeable but demanding of truth. Free will, and a study of many philosophies and religions leads me to the conclusion that all people are brothers and sisters, and the golden rule applies with respect to ALL honest creeds. Mere quantitative, scientific proof is fine, but experiential meaning's man's natural path, spiraling upward from his state on earth, to the Divine. Please, visit the site below, and you will be welcome to learn more of family and me! Charles Riccillo
