Cruver, Amy on behalf of McCune, Rep. Jim (McCune.Jim@leg.wa.gov)
Dear Scott,
Thank you for your letter expressing your concern for global
warming. As your representative, it is my responsibility to consider
the views of all the residents in the second district and evaluate
available information to make wise choices. Our environment is precious
and we are mandated to care for it so that the generations to come can
enjoy it and learn from our stewardship.
Your letter was much welcomed, as it gave me the opportunity to
do additional research. Available environmental information is
daunting! I researched the website you sited, www.1skywashington.org,
but was unable to find any documentation for the claims made. Also, I
examined the home site of the Union of Concerned Scientists, as well as
other sites that were links from the 1skywashington site to get a broad
spectrum of information. I am amazed at the available research.
An article from EarthSave International,
http://www.earthsave.org/news/earthsave_global_warming_report.pdf, was
especially intriguing. This article makes it clear that CO2 is fueled
in part by misconceptions. It says: "It's true that human activity
produces vastly more CO2 than all other greenhouse gases put together.
However, this does not mean it is responsible for most of the earth's
warming. Many other greenhouse gases trap heat far more powerfully than
CO2, some of them tens of thousands of times more powerfully. When
taking into account various gases' global warming potential-defined as
the amount of actual warming a gas will produce over the next one
hundred years-it turns out that gases other than CO2 make up most of the
global warming problem. By far the most important non-CO2 greenhouse
gas is methane, and the number one source of methane worldwide is animal
agriculture."
Next, I read this article, http://newsbusters.org/node/13114,
which discusses Dr. James Hansen, the doctor cited in the EarthSave
article.
Below are additional sites I viewed to get more ideas and
research on our global warming industry:

Thank you for the opportunity to review the science on global
warming. I will continue my research to differentiate fact from fiction
so that I may continue to be an informed representative. While I
applaud you for being in a financial position to be able to absorb the
high increases in our costs of living to implement the solutions
suggested for climate change and/or global warming, I must keep in mind
the many families in the second district who are struggling to make ends
meet, especially when it comes to meeting their energy needs and those
individuals and families on fixed incomes.
Supporting regulations that may only increase our cost of living
without a definitive benefit to the environment or our families and
businesses wouldn't make sense. We all want an environment that's
healthy and sustainable and we must approach this subject with wisdom,
common sense, experience and truth. I am keeping a file on climate
change; therefore, you are welcome to forward to me articles you
consider important for me to add to my research.
Thank you for sharing your concerns. They are certainly
considered in all legislative decisions.
Sincerely,
Jim McCune

Subject: Please support climate change solutions!
I am concerned about the impacts of global warming on Washington State
and the future we are leaving to our children . It is our
responsibility, our moral obligation, to protect and care for their
future. Fortunately, by taking strong action here in Washington, we can
make a real difference in our country?s future, strengthen our economy,
and save money by reducing our dependence on fossil fuels.
1Sky Washington is a campaign for Washingtonians from diverse
backgrounds and interests, working together to advance real solutions to
global warming. These solutions include policies to: limit and reduce
global warming pollution, train thousands of workers for clean energy
jobs, give local governments tools for reducing global warming pollution
as they plan for growth, promote transportation tools to reduce
pollution, and encourage energy efficiency . Please click on the
following link to learn more about these policy solutions:

Though climate change is the greatest challenge of our generation, there
is still much to give us hope. Your leadership on this issue will help
to ensure that Washington State meets this challenge.
Please support solutions to global warming in the upcoming legislative
session.
