Larry C. Johnson | Ray, You da Man!
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/050506L.shtml
"Today, Ray McGovern, the man who used to give George Bush senior his daily
intel update, spoke truth to power," writes Larry C. Johnson. "Rumsfeld, to his
credit, permitted Ray to speak rather than having him carried out of the
auditorium. In retrospect, Rummy probably regrets that decision."
The New York Times | Veto? Who Needs a Veto?
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/050506M.shtml
"President Bush doesn't bother with vetoes; he simply declares his intention not
to enforce anything he dislikes," write the editors of the New York Times.
"Charlie Savage at The Globe reported recently that Mr. Bush had issued more
than 750 'presidential signing statements' declaring he wouldn't do what the
laws required. Perhaps the most infamous was the one in which he stated that he
did not really feel bound by the Congressional ban on the torture of prisoners."
Tom Engelhardt | "This Is Our Destiny"
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/050506N.shtml
Tom Englehardt writes, "While the neo-cons proposed much from inside
Washington's Beltway, from various right-wing think tanks, and later from the
inner offices of the Bush administration, while oil-consultant Khalilzad was
still trying to sort out energy pipeline deals with the Taliban, and while
various Iraqi exile Scheherezades were whispering sweet nothings in their ears
about flowers, and liberated populaces, and the glory that was Rome - oh, sorry,
those were pundits on the editorial pages of our major newspapers - they surely
pondered too little."
