School of the Americas: Uruguay and Argentina have halted the training of troops at the U.S. Army’s Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (WHINSEC), formerly known at the School of the Americas (SOA). Torture: Sen. Carl Levin (MI), the ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, recently sent four-page questionnaires to 50 soldiers who worked in Iraq’s Abu Ghraib prison. The questionnaire asked them for more information regarding the use and authorization of abusive tactics there. Read more here (free registration required):

Identity Theft: Several groups, from law enforcement to the tech industry, have joined in a ‘Call to Action’ against phishing scams. Phishing, the attempt to trick unsuspecting individuals into divulging personal information like bank account numbers or Social Security numbers has become a national problem.
