ADDENDUM
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

YOUR EDITOR'S 2003 HISTORY of the Iraq War told completely in lies by
administration officials and advisors has been revived thanks to
Harper's reposting it on their site. It reminded me of one thing that
was left out of my Harper's piece that I especially loved. Can you
guess who said it?

. . . . . . . . .

It was a different kind of war because we were fighting people who sent
youngsters to suicidal deaths and they tried to find a dark cave. They
were lurching around in the dark corners of some cities around the
world, ooching around the dark corners of the world and looking out,
peeping out around the corner. It was also a war where the enemy didn't
show up with airplanes that they own, or tanks or ships. These were
suiciders. [One] day we hauled a guy in named al Nashiri. That's not a
household name here in America. [You] could understand why some went
blank when they heard his name - yeah, those foreign names sure shut us
down.

In the old days you could count tanks and figure out how strong the
enemy was. This was an enemy that hid in caves. They tried to find the
darkest cave, the deepest cave. It was a different kind of hater than we
were used to. The old haters used tanks.

AMERICANS SEE BUSH AS DISHONEST

WILL LESTER, ASSOCIATED PRESS - Almost six in 10 - 57 percent -
[respondents] said they do not think the Bush administration has high
ethical standards and the same portion says President Bush is not
honest, an AP-Ipsos poll found. Just over four in 10 say the
administration has high ethical standards and that Bush is honest.
Whites, Southerners and white evangelicals were most likely to believe
Bush is honest.

CLINTON STILL AT LARGE

Former president Bill Clinton called Congress' impeachment of him an
"egregious" abuse of the Constitution and challenged those who say
history will judge him poorly because of his White House tryst with
Monica Lewinsky. Speaking at an academic conference examining his
presidency here Thursday, Clinton challenged historian Douglas
Brinkley's comments in a newspaper interview that Clinton would be
deemed a great president were it not for his impeachment. "I completely
disagree with that," Clinton said in his speech at Hofstra University.
"You can agree with that statement, but only if you think impeachment
was justified. Otherwise, it was an egregious abuse of the Constitution
and law and history of our country."

GOP MEMO SUGGESTS HOW PRESIDENT CAN RECOVER

DOUG THOMPSON, CAPITOL HILL BLUE -A confidential memo circulating among
senior Republican leaders suggests that a new attack by terrorists on
U.S. soil could reverse the sagging fortunes of President George W. Bush
as well as the GOP and "restore his image as a leader of the American
people." The closely-guarded memo lays out a list of scenarios to bring
the Republican party back from the political brink, including a
devastating attack by terrorists that could "validate" the President's
war on terror and allow Bush to "unite the country" in a "time of
national shock and sorrow." The memo says such a reversal in the
President's fortunes could keep the party from losing control of
Congress in the 2006 midterm elections.

The memo outlines other scenarios, including:

--Capture of Osama bin Laden (or proof that he is dead);

--A drastic turnaround in the economy;

--A "successful resolution" of the Iraq war.

BOONDOGGLE OF THE WEEK

PROJECT ON GOVERNMENT OVERSIGHT - The Senate has approved by a vote of
89-8 an amendment to the Defense Authorization Bill that would give the
Pentagon authority to annually purchase at least six new C-17 cargo jets
at a cost a total of roughly $1 billion despite the fact that a new
airlift requirements study concluded there is no need for the aircraft.
The amendment sponsors include the senators from states where the
aircraft is manufactured and assembled, and where the engines are
produced.

THEORIES: PHYSICIST CHALLENGES 9/11 EXPLANATION

ELAINE JARVIK DESERET MORNING NEWS - The physics of 9/11 - including how
fast and symmetrically one of the World Trade Center buildings fell -
prove that official explanations of the collapses are wrong, says a
Brigham Young University physics professor. In fact, it's likely that
there were "pre-positioned explosives" in all three buildings at ground
zero, says Steven E. Jones. In a paper posted online Tuesday and
accepted for peer-reviewed publication next year, Jones adds his voice
to those of previous skeptics. . .

Jones, who conducts research in fusion and solar energy at BYU, is
calling for an independent, international scientific investigation
"guided not by politicized notions and constraints but rather by
observations and calculations. "It is quite plausible that explosives
were pre-planted in all three buildings and set off after the two plane
crashes - which were actually a diversion tactic," he writes. "Muslims
are (probably) not to blame for bringing down the WTC buildings after
all," Jones writes. As for speculation about who might have planted the
explosives, Jones said, "I don't usually go there. There's no point in
doing that until we do the scientific investigation." Previous
investigations, including those of FEMA, the 9/11 Commission and NIST
(the National Institutes of Standards and Technology), ignore the
physics and chemistry of what happened on Sept. 11, 2001, to the Twin
Towers and the 47-story building known as WTC 7, he says. The official
explanation - that fires caused structural damage that caused the
buildings to collapse - can't be backed up by either testing or history,
he says. Jones acknowledges that there have been "junk science"
conspiracy theories about what happened on 9/11, but "the explosive
demolition hypothesis better satisfies tests of repeatability and
parsimony and therefore is not 'junk science.' " In a 9,000-word article
that Jones says will be published in the book "The Hidden History of
9/11," by Elsevier, Jones offers these arguments:

- The three buildings collapsed nearly symmetrically, falling down into
their footprints, a phenomenon associated with "controlled demolition" -
and even then it's very difficult, he says. "Why would terrorists
undertake straight-down collapses of WTC-7 and the Towers when 'toppling
over' falls would require much less work and would do much more damage
in downtown Manhattan?" Jones asks. . .

- No steel-frame building, before or after the WTC buildings, has ever
collapsed due to fire. But explosives can effectively sever steel
columns, he says.

- WTC 7, which was not hit by hijacked planes, collapsed in 6.6 seconds,
just .6 of a second longer than it would take an object dropped from the
roof to hit the ground. "Where is the delay that must be expected due to
conservation of momentum, one of the foundational laws of physics?" he
asks. "That is, as upper-falling floors strike lower floors - and intact
steel support columns - the fall must be significantly impeded by the
impacted mass. . . . How do the upper floors fall so quickly, then, and
still conserve momentum in the collapsing buildings?" The paradox, he
says, "is easily resolved by the explosive demolition hypothesis,
whereby explosives quickly removed lower-floor material, including steel
support columns, and allow near free-fall-speed collapses." . . .

- Horizontal puffs of smoke, known as squibs, were observed proceeding
up the side the building, a phenomenon common when pre-positioned
explosives are used to demolish buildings, he says.

- Steel supports were "partly evaporated," but it would require
temperatures near 5,000 degrees Fahrenheit to evaporate steel - and
neither office materials nor diesel fuel can generate temperatures that
hot. Fires caused by jet fuel from the hijacked planes lasted at most a
few minutes, and office material fires would burn out within about 20
minutes in any given location, he says.

- Multiple loud explosions in rapid sequence were reported by numerous
observers in and near the towers, and these explosions occurred far
below the region where the planes struck, he says.

GOOGLE: ONE OF THE FEW THINGS WAL-MART'S AFRAID OF

STEVE LOHR - Wal-Mart, the nation's largest retailer, often intimidates
its competitors and suppliers. Makers of goods from diapers to DVD's
must cater to its whims. But there is one company that even Wal-Mart
eyes warily these days: Google, a seven-year-old business in a seemingly
distant industry. "We watch Google very closely at Wal-Mart," said Jim
Breyer, a member of Wal-Mart's board.

In Google, Wal-Mart sees both a technology pioneer and the seed of a
threat, said Mr. Breyer, who is also a partner in a venture capital
firm. The worry is that by making information available everywhere,
Google might soon be able to tell Wal-Mart shoppers if better bargains
are available nearby.

Wal-Mart is scarcely alone in its concern. As Google increasingly
becomes the starting point for finding information and buying products
and services, companies that even a year ago did not see themselves as
competing with Google are beginning to view the company with some angst
- mixed with admiration. Google's recent moves have stirred concern in
industries from book publishing to telecommunications. Businesses
already feeling the Google effect include advertising, software and the
news media. Apart from retailing, Google's disruptive presence may soon
be felt in real estate and auto sales.

Google, the reigning giant of Web search, could extend its economic
reach in the next few years as more people get high-speed Internet
service and cellphones become full-fledged search tools, according to
analysts. And ever-smarter software, they say, will cull and organize
larger and larger digital storehouses of news, images, real estate
listings and traffic reports, delivering results that are more like the
advice of a trusted human expert. . .

Google, then, may turn out to have a more far-reaching impact than
earlier Web winners like Amazon and eBay. "Google is the realization of
everything that we thought the Internet was going to be about but really
wasn't until Google," said David B. Yoffie, a professor at Harvard
Business School.

I'd like to say to the good citizens of Dover: if there is a disaster in
your area, don't turn to God, you just rejected Him from your city. . .
And don't wonder why He hasn't helped you when problems begin, if they
begin. I'm not saying they will, but if they do, just remember, you just
voted God out of your city. And if that's the case, don't ask for His
help because he might not be there - Pat Robertson, commenting on his TV
show about Dover's defeat of pro-creationist school board members.
