Please help us reach 100,000 signatures by spring (this weekend!)‏

Good news! I think we are very close to our goal of replanting a healthy fruit and veggie garden at the White House, so please help us bring this campaign home by inviting a few of your friends to sign our petition:

Why am I so optimistic? First, because I believe in you and in the power of a community organized around a common cause to bring about social change.

By turning out in force and inviting your friends, you have made the international news and have helped grow our cause. In the past week, our petition drive has been featured in newspapers across the country and around the world. Check out our Twitter feed to see some of the news you're making:

Second, I believe that the Obamas have heard us and are going to replant a White House garden because it's the healthy, right thing to do for their own family and for the millions of families who look to them for inspiration and leadership.

Time will soon tell if I'm right in that belief, but we don't have to wait for the First Family to take action in order to start digging in our own communities. Every week, I receive news of new gardens being planned and dug, behind homes, schools, churches and prisons and even some very profile ones in front of town and city halls. As Gandhi said, we need to "be the change" we want to see in the world.

For those of you just getting started in gardening or don't even know where to start, check out Kitchen Gardeners International's thriving social network:

It's like Facebook for gardeners and home cooks, but without any ads.

I'll be back in touch one week from today with the results of our petition signature gathering contest which comes to an end this Saturday at 7:44 AM Eastern Time (when spring begins). If you missed the info on the contest and prizes ($1200's worth), you can find it here:

Thanks again for your support. We're almost there!
