TIM NOAH, OBAMA MESSIAH WATCH, SLATE - Today's entry is from a Jan. 27
Associated Press feature by Glen Johnson: "Obama analyzed and integrated
Einstein's theory of relativity, the Heisenberg uncertainty principle,
as well as the concept of curved space as an alternative to gravity, for
a [Harvard] Law Review article that [Prof. Laurence] Tribe wrote titled,
'The Curvature of Constitutional Space.'" By this measure, thousands of
reasonably bright high-school students across the United States are
destined to become president.

OBAMA NEVER HAD SELF-ESTEEM PROBLEMS

JOHN MCCASLIN, WASHINGTON TIMES - Sen. Barack Obama knew as early as the
third grade that he wanted to be president of the United States. The
Voice of America and its Indonesian TV service are reporting that the
Illinois Democrat, who recently made it official that he is seeking the
presidency in 2008, "declared his goal of becoming president when he was
in grade school in Indonesia more than 35 years ago." In an interview
with VOA's Indonesian Service, Mr. Obama's third-grade teacher said he
wrote in a class assignment that he "wanted to be president," according
to VOA's Web site. The assignment was called, "What do you want to be
when you grow up?"

SPITZER SUFFERING FROM EGO OBESITY

DANIEL TROTTA, REUTERS - New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer was unabashed about
declaring himself a "steamroller" and the most accomplished governor in
the history of the state after three weeks on the job.
"I am a fucking steamroller and I'll roll over you or anybody else," the
Democratic governor told Republican Assemblyman James Tedisco in a
private conversation last week, the New York Post reported on Wednesday.
"I've done more in three weeks than any governor has done in the history
of the state," Spitzer also said, the Post reported.

Asked at a news conference if the comments were inappropriately
boastful, Spitzer replied tersely, "No. Next question."

Former New York governors include DeWitt Clinton, who built the Erie
Canal in the 1820s, connecting New York to the interior of the United
States and cementing New York City's position as a powerhouse of
international trade. Four former governors went on to become president
including Franklin D. Roosevelt, whose social welfare programs for the
state provided a model for the New Deal when he later entered the White
House.

"Most of those things take longer. At that rate we should be in heaven
in four weeks, but he (Spitzer) might not get in for lack of modesty,"
said former Gov. Mario Cuomo, who added that he did not consider the
matter serious and did not expect it to hurt Spitzer politically.

OBAMA'S AFRICAN FAMILY DON'T THINK MUCH OF PRESS SNOOPING

HAROLD AYODO, EAST AFRICAN STANDARD, NAIROBI - The family of US Senator
Barack Obama wants the international media to stop using his ancestral
home in Siaya to sabotage his race for White House. His grandmother, Mrs
Sarah Obama, told The Standard on Sunday that some foreign reporters had
gone to her Nyang'oma Kogelo home to dig up the Senator's past. "I am
surprised that many journalists come for negative information about the
family," said Sarah, 84. Mr Said Obama, a stepbrother to the Illinois
Senator and the family spokesman, said foreign media should leave Sarah
alone. "We (Obama family) are not amused that journalists board flights
whenever the Senator makes statements in the US to come for reactions
from Sarah," Said said. "The Senator keeps in touch with us by telephone
and we have informed him what's happening.". . . Sarah said journalists
started flocking into the home late last month. "Most journalists who
jet in for interviews do not seem to have good intentions...they are too
inquisitive on our roots and religion," she said.

GOP CANDIDATES LEAD IN DIVORCES

POLITICAL WIRE - Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani's entry into the
Republican presidential campaign "gives the emerging GOP field the edge
over the Democrats in the number of divorces or annulled marriages,"
according to Cox Newspapers. "The GOP has long touted itself as the
party of family values, but its developing 2008 presidential field has
recorded four divorces and one annulment, compared to three divorces
among the Democrats." "In addition to Giuliani, who has had one marriage
annulled and another end in divorce, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich
is twice divorced and Sen. John McCain of Arizona has one divorce. Among
the Democrats, Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio has had two divorces and
Sen. Chris Dodd of Connecticut has one."
