If you find this information useful, please consider making a donation.

IN THIS ISSUE:

  1. Field Director's Note: The California PDA Tour, April 25-30
  2. Action Alert: Call Your Senators: No Permanent Bases
  3. Extra: Spokescouncil Announcement
  4. End Notes

Field Director's Note:

Next week, most of the PDA staff will be in California, so our attention has turned to making the tour a success. It will begin in Orange County, wind its way through Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, and finish at the state Democratic convention in Sacramento.

To ensure broad-based representation, a limited number of $35-$50 tickets have been reserved for the fundraising event in LA. These tickets will be sold on a first-come first-served basis. To reserve your ticket, contact: Angie@pdamerica.org.

The California Progressive Democrats Tour is coming your way, and we would like to invite you to join us at any or all of our events leading up to and including the California Democratic Party State Convention in Sacramento, April 28-30.

Progressive Democrats of America will sponsor events featuring our national leadership and special guests at three Southern California sites during the week preceding the convention, then roll on into Sacramento for an entire weekend of political action, after which we expect to be energized and determined to take it to the streets of our home districts! Action Alert:

Tell Senators: Establish Clear Policy on Permanent Iraqi Bases PDA Joins FCNL in National Call-in Day, April 24

In a House vote on March 15, an amendment was attached to the supplemental appropriations bill (H.R.4939), which stated, "None of the funds in this Act may be used by the U.S. government to enter into a basing rights agreement between the United States and Iraq."

On Tuesday, April 4, Senate appropriators voted to cut $177 million in funding for long-term military construction projects. The Senate Appropriations Committee wrote in the report that accompanied this bill: "It is the current policy of the United States to establish no permanent military bases in Iraq," and "While these projects may indeed be of military value, they intend a more permanent presence than is the policy of the United States." Extra: First Meeting of the National Spokescouncil

The first meeting of the National Spokescouncil will be held on April 30. This is an historic moment for us as the grassroots take an official seat at the PDA table. This process began last July and a lot of work and discussion took place as our Charter was refined, voted on, and approved during the last ten months. We are now in position to officially begin working on approving the policy positions posted on our website. For more info, contact: Laura@pdamerica.org.
