Endangered Species Act in danger of extinction!

Action Alert

Last fall we asked you to help us save the Endangered Species Act by opposing Congressman Pombo’s “extinction bill” in the House of Representatives.

Unfortunately, this bill, which would lead to more wildlife extinctions and undermine our national commitment to protecting endangered plants and animals, passed in the House late last year.

The environmental community is now turning all its efforts to the Senate. In the next few weeks, enemies of environmental protection may introduce a bill that would deal a death blow to the critical Endangered Species Act and put countless endangered species at risk of extinction.

For more than 30 years the Endangered Species Act (ESA) has successfully protected vulnerable animals including manatees, bald eagles, and grizzly bears. In fact, the ESA has managed to save all but 9 of the 1800 animals listed as endangered from being declared extinct.

What your Senator does in the coming weeks is absolutely critical. Pombo's "extinction bill" could easily be combined with any bill that passes the Senate, creating a disastrous bill that would threaten the future protection of species like the humpback whale and the gray wolf.

We need your help to raise $15,000 by Earth Day, April 22 to fund our crucial efforts to defeat anti-environmental protection legislation in the Senate before it's too late!

Click here to make a secure online donation of $25 or more that will support our efforts to fight for the Endangered Species Act.

Your dollars will help us pay for organizers in eight key states who will mobilize their citizens to contact their Senators with urgent requests to protect the ESA. Your support is essential to this grassroots outreach effort to the Senators whose votes will be most critical in determining the future of our endangered species.

Please join us in celebrating Earth Day this year by forwarding this message to at least ten friends, family members and co-workers and asking them to join you in preventing this attack on our incredibly valuable endangered species.

Thank you so much for your support.

Best,
