Media Savvy - Times to Globe: It's Hard Out Here For A Pimp!‏



Now The Times is demanding still more -- $20 million in wage and benefits concessions from members of the Globe's unions - even as top executives like Sulzberger issue themselves beaucoup bucks in bonuses, and refuse to comment on how the other $65 million the paper will lose this year will be made up.

Boston.com, which includes a complete free online version of the Globe as one of its offerings, is seeing its readership continue to grow. Given this, the key question for the NY Times Co. and the Globe seems clear: can a large-circulation metro newspaper attract enough advertising to make it a profitable online-only site offering original-source news?
