On its way out, the Bush administration is taking one last stab at gutting the Endangered Species Act - and to stifle protest, has allowed only 10 days for the public to comment. Speak up now to stop them.
For the past few months I've been urging you to defend the ESA from last-minute attacks by Bush appointees. And we've racked up an astonishing number of signatures in this effort: No fewer than 53,000 of you have responded to the Center's call for action. We stand a great chance of stamping out this insidious effort to hurt endangered species.
But it's not over yet.
We've entered the final stretch: the Interior Department's Draft Environmental Assessment for this action has now been published. Not surprisingly, the analysis in the draft is deeply dishonest - it stubbornly insists the weakening of the rules won't have any major impact on the environment.
And the administration's deadline is targeted at preventing the public from taking notice while they rush through the changes.
Don't let them get away with it. Please, click to submit your comments today.
Thank you.
