It's Safe to Laugh Again

AlterNet Books Presents

Young Dick Cheney, Great American

Last November, two guys showed up at AlterNet's doorstep carrying the manuscript for a book. It was called Young Dick Cheney: Great American; and although it had been written to satirize classic children's biographies, this book was clearly intended for grown-ups. Politically minded, frustrated, angry grown-ups tired from eight years of banging their heads against the wall and desperate for a good laugh.

Well, we gave the book a read, and we did laugh. A lot.

Bruce Kluger and David Slavin, the authors of this irreverent boyhood memoir, are no strangers to satire. Regular contributors to National Public Radio's "All Things Considered," their humor has appeared everywhere from the L.A. Times and The New York Times to Salon and Huffington and AlterNet.

Kluger and Slavin asked us to roll the dice and publish their book. Still laughing, we said yes.

On April 1st (no fooling), AlterNet Books will proudly release our first venture into the book publishing world. Hilariously illustrated by Tim Foley and crammed with wickedly funny set pieces that trace Young Dick's blossoming love of shotguns, oil and dirty politics, Young Dick Cheney: Great American is locked, loaded and right on target.

Now Kluger and Slavin are happy. AlterNet is happy. And once you've read the book, you'll be happy, too. (In fact, the only person who won't be happy with Young Dick Cheney is old Dick Cheney. And, frankly, that makes us even happier.)

As readers of AlterNet, you get first shot at Young Dick. ( Pre-sale starts at $12.95 ). Learn more about this thoroughly outrageous book: visit alternet.org/youngdickcheney, order yourself a copy, and some for your friends. It's a hoot.

Join AlterNet Books as we celebrate this historic(ally awful) administration by giving it a swift kick out the door.

Happy Dick Hunting.

"At last, as Bush/Cheney staggers toward its final throes, here comes a book that pries back the door on our secretive Vice President and delivers a double-barreled blast of satiric buckshot. I predict Kluger and Slavin will be greeted as liberators!"
