Republicans are braced to lose at least seven seats in the House of Representatives in the November elections, and possibly as many as 30, according to the Washington Post.
Although the GOP has been struggling under plummeting public support for the war in Iraq, incessant publicity over the Foley page scandal and the House leadership's handling of the crisis has put normally safe GOP districts up for grabs and made the party as a whole more vulnerable in the weeks before the election. Although a Democratic takeover of the House is not a foregone conclusion, one Republican House Member, Rep. Adam Putnam (FL), admitted, "It is unquestionably closer than we would like."
