Mysterious dead list:

Spinning a Conspiracy Theory

Of 22 air crashes involving state and federal officials, including one ambassador (Arnold Raphael) and one cabinet official (Ron Brown), 14 (64 percent) were members of the Democratic Party and 8 (36 percent) were members of the Republican Party. If the list was limited to only elected members of Congress, the total was eight Democrats and four Republicans. http://politicalgraveyard.com/

Assassinations information

According to NBC investigative reporter, Robert Windrem, Delta Force personnel have, over the years, been recruited by the CIA's Special Activities Staff (SAS) for use in assassinations.

"No assassination instructions should ever be written or recorded. Decision and instructions [regarding assassination] should be confined to an absolute minimum of persons. For secret assassination...the contrived accident is the most effective technique. When successfully executed, it causes little excitement and is only casually investigated."--A Study of Assassination, a training manual written by the CIA and distributed to agents and operatives at the time of the Agency's 1954 covert coup in Guatemala, which ousted Guatemala's democratically elected president, Jacobo Arbenz Guzman.

"They are the most ruthless motherf---ers there are and if they want to get somebody, they will. They will do their own people up."--David Sanchez Morales, former Chief of Operations at the CIA station in Miami (JM/WAVE) and a consultant to the Deputy Director of the Joint Chiefs, talking about the CIA, Gaeton Fonzi, The Last Investigation

Foster Jr, Vincent W.

That while he was White House Deputy Counsel and for many years prior, Vincent Foster had been a behind-the- scenes control person on behalf of the National Security Agency for Systematics, a bank data processing company integrally involved in a highly secret intelligence effort to monitor world bank transactions.

That Systematics was also involved in 'laundering' funds from covert operations, including drug and arms sales related to activities in and around Mena, Ark.

That through Systematics' relationship with E-Systems, Vincent Foster may have had access to highly sensitive code, encryption and data security information of strategic importance.

That both prior to and after his death, documents relating to Systematics were removed from Vincent Foster's office in the White House.

GENE "CHIP" TATUM -- CA. JULY 1996 Abbreviated transcript of Gene Tatum's appearance on the Rob Lori radio show out of Tampa, Florida.

NOTE: Tatum claims to have been an assassin who worked for the secret government within our U.S. government.

In 1981, Reagan's Director of Central Intelligence, William Casey, saw the political possibilities of turning Howard Bane's Office of Terrorism into a "back-channel" mechanism for conducting secret "hip pocket" operations outside the normal chain of command. Casey replaced aging Bane with CIA officer William F. Buckley Jr., a special warfare expert who had managed the CIA's Counter-Terror Program in Vietnam from 1969-1972. Buckley renamed Bane's unit the Office of Domestic Terrorism (OTC), and the ODT became the official manifestation of the off-the-shelf "Enterprise" formed by " formed by Bush (Sr.), while he was Director of Central Intelligence (Jan. 1976-Jan. 1997), and his anti- terrorism guru, the CIA's Assistant Deputy Director of Operations, Theodore Shackley in mid-1976.

In 1982 North was named the NSC staff coordinator for crisis management. VP Bush was in overall charge as chair of the cabinet-level Crisis Management Committee. Starting in February 1983, North, developed a secret Crisis Management Center, and "a plan (REX 84) to suspend the Constitution in the event of a national crisis .

Tatum stated that under the above organization, three Operations Sub-Groups (OSGs) were formed. He was assigned to OSG-3 the "our alignment group." (translated a US death squad) OSG-1 was headed by Ted Shackley. OSG-2 which was commanded by Col. Oliver North.

Tatum alleges that he was tasked by Bush Sr. (1989 -1993) with the neutralization (assassination) of a Mossad agent in 1988,

o (Amiram Nir was killed in 1988) an army Chief of Staff in 1989,

o (General Gustavo Alverez was killed in 1989) the President of a third world country in 1989, and the leader of a revolutionary force in Central America in 1991

o (Enrique Bermudez, Contra leader and overseer of the cocaine kitchens, was killed in 1991).

Amiram Nir was the Prime Minister of Israel's primary consultant on terrorism. He was associated with Israeli intelligence. I'm not going to say it was Mossad. It was Israeli intelligence of some sort -- because of his knowledge.

GENE TATUM: I was to fly a 4-man team to a southern Mexico town, outside of Morelia. Mr. Nir was involved in an avocado packaging plant which, I don't know if it did or didn't package avocados, or packaged something else. I was not involved in that. I *was* involved in eliminating him before he could appear before the commissions to testify in 1989.

I flew a 4-man team in. There was a radio beacon put in, with the frequency given to us, put on Mr. Nir. We triangulated the position. The 4-man team went to that position to eliminate Mr. Nir. However apparently there were two signals, and one was in an aircraft, a small aircraft. I think it was a Cessna T-210, a small, charter aircraft.

The shoot-down took place at a time when the Iran-Contra scandal was on the front pages of American newspapers

When I fly a mission as a combat helicopter pilot, into a foreign country, we normally fly in what's called "the Archer Mode," which is an armed mode. We would fly an aircraft with full Stingers on one side of the pod, and we would fly a, about a one-quarter to one-third charged missiles on the right side of the aircraft, so that we could scare away base aircraft based in the country that we were in, rather than shoot them down. We would rather scare them away than shoot them down. Unfortunately, this missile, the proximity missile that I fired, took down the aircraft and killed two people on board.

GENE TATUM: I believe that he could have provided embarrassing information about the involvement of Mr. Harari, directly linking, probably, Israel, to the manufacturing and trafficking of cocaine. I believe that he could implicate the Vice-President of the United States, George Bush, in the trafficking of cocaine. And I believe he could implicate several others, including Mr. North. And I believe that he was prepared to implicate them.

GENE TATUM: (The assassination order ) It came through Major Rodriguez, who actually ended up being Felix Rodriguez. Most of the orders that we would receive would come through that particular mode. Now this, you have to understand, was after Iran-Contra. So the order came from Rodriguez, but it was actually from George Bush.

GENE TATUM: (Speaking directly to George H.W. Bush via a telephone call ) Bush explained to me that Mr. Nir was a threat, that he was trying to expose the movement and the trafficking, and that he needed to be "taken out." And he told me to pick up my Archer Team, relocate to El Salvador, that tactical fuel [unclear] and tactical beacons would be set up. I was to move my aircraft to those beacons for re-fueling, and eliminate Mr. Nir.

Rep. Larkin Smith, D-Miss. was killed in a private plane crash in 1989. At the time he had been working with veterans of U.S. Army Special Forces looking into the deaths of five Green Beret colonels, all of whom had been connected to a covert CIA drug operation known as Watchtower. Watchtower was a secret string of air craft becons used for CIA drug traffickers to avoid radars and detection by authories.

Another recent victim was Missouri's former Democratic governor, Mel Carnahan, who lost his life in 2000, three weeks before Election Day, during his Senatorial race against John Ashcroft. Carnahan went on to become the first dead man to win a Senatorial race, humiliating and defeating the unpopular Ashcroft posthumously. Ashcroft, despite his unpopularity, went on to be appointed Attorney General by George W. Bush. Investigators determined that Carnahan's plane went down due to "poor visibility."

Isn't it quite a coincidence that these two Democratic candidates both died in plane crashes only two years apart, both just weeks before the elections? It's even more of a coincidence that both were very progressive Democrats.

Democratic Representative Jerry Litton, whose plane crashed the night he won the Democratic nomination for senate in 1976. His Republican opponent ultimately captured the seat from his successor in November.

U.S. Senator, liberal Republican John Heinz was outspoken opponent of the Vietnam War, later emerged as a strong proponent of health care, social services, public transportation and the environment. He also urged reconciliation with Cuba. He died when the landing gear on his small plane failed to function, and a helicopter dispatched to survey the problem crashed into his plane. He chaired the three-man presidential review board that probed the Iran-contra affair. He died in a plane crash in April 1991

One former senator, John Tower, also died in a small plane crash. Tower was best known as the chair of the Tower Commission, which investigated the Reagan/Bush era Iran/Contra scandal.

Another member of a prominent government commission who died in a small plane crash was former Democratic representative and House Majority Leader Hale Boggs. Boggs was best known as one of the seven members of the Warren Commission, which investigated the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Boggs, it turns out, had "strong doubts" that Oswald acted alone, but went along with the commission findings. Later, in 1971 and 1972, he went public with his doubts. He was presumed dead after the small plane carrying him and Democratic Representative Nicholas Begich disappeared in 1972.

Texas Democratic Representative Mickey Leland also died in a plane crash. In his case, the six-term member of Congress and outspoken advocate of sanctions against the apartheid government of South Africa, died while traveling in Ethiopia.

"....Panamanian General Omar Torrijos, who in 1981 thumbed his nose at the Reagan/Bush administration and threatened to destroy the Panama Canal in the event of a U.S. invasion. Torrijos died shortly thereafter when the instruments in his plane failed to function upon takeoff. Panamanians speculated that the U.S. was involved in the death of the popular dictator, who was replaced by a U.S. intelligence operative, Manuel Noreiga, who previously worked with George Bush Senior."

Dr. Michael I. Niman teaches journalism and media studies at Buffalo State College.

Rep. Larry McDonald, D-Ga. and the national chairman of the John Birch Society and creator of a private intelligence operation called Western Goals Foundation, was killed on KAL 007 after it had mysteriously veered off course on a flight to South Korea and ventured several hundred miles into Soviet territory. The plane was shot down by the Soviet air force. At the time, McDonald's Western Goals was being exposed in an LAPD intelligence scandal linked to massive domestic spying, the CIA and covert operatives like Gen. John Singlaub.

http://www.fromthewilderness.com/free/ww3/110102_wellstone.html

Western Goals solicited funds to create a computer database on American subversives, but was sued by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) when it was caught attempting to computerize references to "subversive" files pilfered from the disbanded Los Angeles Police Department "Red Squad."

Western Goals essentially collapsed after the death of Larry McDonald in September of 1983. A contentious battle over control of Western Goals and the alienation of key funders left the foundation essentially a shell which was taken over by a conservative fundraiser Carl Russell "Spitz" Channell who turned it into a conduit for contra fundraising efforts linked to North and Iran-Contragate. John Rees returned to his freelance spy-master status while former Western Goals director Linda Guell went to Singlaub's Freedom Foundation. Rees later turned up at the Maldon Institute.

Paul Wellstone was a two-term U.S. Senator from Minnesota. A Democrat, he served in the Senate from 1991 until his death in a plane crash on October 25, 2002. His wife, Sheila, and daughter, Marcia, also died in the crash. Wellstone's death came just 11 days before his potential re-election in a crucial race to maintain Democratic control of the Senate. Polls showed Wellstone was beginning to pull ahead of Republican nominee Norm Coleman, the former mayor of St. Paul

In the months before his death Wellstone had voted against several key Bush agendas including Homeland Security, the Iraqi use of force resolution and many of Bush's judicial nominees. In a Senate controlled 50-49 by the Democrats, Wellstone was perhaps the single one-man obstacle to Bush's fervent and stated desire to secure passage of the Homeland Security measure prior to a U.S. invasion of Iraq.

http://www.fromthewilderness.com/free/ww3/110102_wellstone.html

Ph.D. Professors James Fetzer and Don "Four Arrows" Jacobs present the harrowing truth. Wellstone's plane was not responsible. The weather didn't cause it to crash. Nor were the pilots incompetent, as the report of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) would eventually maintain.

The facts point elsewhere. The FBI arrived at the remote rural crash scene with perternatural speed. Could they have known in advance? The FBI restrained the ambulance and the fire teams from taking photos. Even the AP photographer on hand was intimidated, delayed and monitored. And a member of the U.S. Capitol Police Dignitary Protection Division was there.

Did these representatives of law enforcement illegally remove evidence, such as indications of foul play, before the NTSB arrived to investigate, some eight hours later? Why did the FBI state that they were treating the site as a "crime scene" but also maintain that this was not the scene of a crime?

How could the FBI conclude and publicly announce, even before NTSB had arrived, that there was "no evidence of terrorism"? A determination of the cause of the crash would not be made for more than a year. So how could they possibly know? And there actually was a connection to an alleged terrorist. NTSB is legally mandated to take jurisdiction over a crash scene, but let the FBI take control. Yet in its official report, the NTSB failed to even mention any role played by the FBI.

http://www.assassinationscience.com/American_Assassination.html

The FBI's prompt arrival was peculiar. As Christopher Bollyn of American Free Press reported ("http://www.rumormillnews.net", Oct. 29, 2002), "According to Rick Wahlberg, then St. Louis County sheriff, a team of FBI agents was quickly on the crash site about noon, less than an hour after (assistant manager Gary) Ulman and the (fire) chief had first located the site and found a way to access the wreck. This FBI team had come from the distant Twin Cities in record time!"

In mid-June,1974 before the Rolland McMaster-Anthony Provenzano meeting, and a few days prior to his scheduled appearance before a Senate Select Committee investigating CIA-underworld plots to assassinate Fidel Castro, the Chicago mobster Sam Giancana was murdered at his home. A trusted underworld informant who was close to him told a House committee investigating the CIA that Sam Giancana was executed by underworld associates who had also been involved in the assassination plots.

Henry Marshall, a Department of Agriculture official, was looking into the Estes case and particularly interested in Estes connections to long-time friend, Lyndon Johnson. However, before any official action could be taken, Marshall was found dead.

Soon after Lyndon Johnson become vice president, yet another investigation into his financial dealings got underway. This time it involved a big-time Texas wheeler-dealer named Billie Sol Estes. Estes had allegedly been cheat the Department of Agriculture of millions in federal cotton allotments (money for not growing cotton) on land which was underwater.

Marshall had been shoot in the abdomen five times with a .22 cal. rifle. In 1985, after granted immunity from prosecution, he told Texas media that Johnson had ordered Marshall's death to prevent exposure of Estes connections to Johnson. At least three other men connected with the Estes case died in unusual circumstances.

On August 11, 1988, Ted Strecker, was found shot to death in his home in Springfield, Missouri. The death was ruled a suicide, in spite of the fact that Dr. Robert Strecker had spoken to his brother on the phone the night before, and Ted was both healthy and in good spirits.

On September 12, 1988, the lone political official who had responded to the Streckers' findings, Illinois State Representative Douglas Huff of Chicago, was found dead in his home. The autopsy claimed he died of a stroke as a result of an overdose of cocaine and heroin. Huff had been an outspoken supporter of Dr. Strecker's work to publicize what was in essence an AIDS cover-up.

Concerning total AIDS deaths, Dr. Campbell Douglass writes: "Dr. Strecker points out that even if the African green monkey could transmit AIDS to humans, the present known amount of infection in Africa makes it statistically impossible for a single episode, such as a monkey biting someone on the butt, to have brought this epidemic to this point [1987]. The doubling time of the number of people infected, about every 14 months, when correlated with the first known case and the present known number of cases, prove beyond a doubt that a large number of people had to have been infected at the same time.

Starting in 1972 with the first case from our mythical monkey and doubling the number infected from the single source you get only a few thousand cases. From 1972 to 1987 is 15 years or 180 months. If it takes 14 months to double the number of cases then there would have been 13 doublings, one then 2, then 4, then 8, etc. In 15 years, from a single source of infection there would be about 8,000 cases in Africa, not 75 million. [That's his bottom line then for Africa alone] We are approaching World War II mortality statistics here—without a shot being fired."

Thus, we are faced with a species-killer, a global war.

Dr. Robert Strecker along with the help of his brother, Theodore, a lawyer, in 1983 the two compiled extensive research of the epidemic which ultimately became The Strecker Memorandum.

Dr. Strecker indicated that the AIDS virus was in fact developed by the National Cancer Institute, in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO), in a laboratory at Ft. Dietrick in Maryland. From 1970–74, this laboratory facility was part of the U.S. Army's germ warfare unit, known as the Army Infectious Disease Unit, or Special Operations Division, also referred to as the Army's Chemical Biological Warfare Laboratory. Post 1974, the facility was renamed the National Cancer Institute (NCI). According to researcher William Cooper (former Navy Intelligence), noted in Larry Jamison's article Is The AIDS Virus Man Made?, this work was supervised by the CIA under a project called MK-NAOMI.

Orlando Letelier: He was torn to bits by a car bomb on the streets of Washington DC just before he was to testify about the Chilean dictator Pinochet. After the bombing, CIA Director George H. W. Bush told the FBI that there had been no Chilean involvement whatsoever. In 1991 the post-Pinochet Chilean Supreme Court asked George H. W. Bush if he would submit to questioning. He refused.

Sabow, Col. Jim -1991 was murdered after he had discovered CIA-connected C-130s flying tons of cocaine onto El Toro Marine Air Station in 1990 and 1991. Sabow threatened to expose an illegal covert operation at El Toro involving Sabow's fellow officers, CIA-sponsored airlifts to Central and South America, black cargo planes landing in the middle of the night and drugs.

Decorated Vietnam veteran and lawyer Gary Eitel served as a special federal prosecutor in a case that looked into the CIA's diversion of C-130 Hercules aircraft into the hands of private companies who were operating as CIA contractors or proprietaries. These were the same C-130s that flew into Col. Jim Sabow's life. Eitel told the Sabow family that the way to prove their case was to find the refueling records that would identify the El Toro planes as the same ones he had already proven had been maneuvered through the Forest Service by the government.

The murder was made to look like a suicide.

Among other loose ends, all fingerprints had been wiped from the shotgun that killed Sabow. Several police forensics experts said that it would have been impossible for Sabow to not have left his fingerprints on the weapon he used to kill himself.

Furthermore, crime-scene photographs and reports made it clear that almost no blood had spilled from the body. If the colonel was still alive when he pulled the trigger, why hadn't blood spilled everywhere? The only sizable spray of blood on Sabow's body had coated a patch of his left forearm and palm, ending abruptly in a neat line across his skin. To Dr. Sabow, this seemed to suggest his brother was already lying on the ground on his right side when the shotgun went off.

Dr. Sabow provided the medical reports and photographs to several other doctors, including a team of neurologists and neuroradiologists at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine, and asked them to review the evidence. Dr. Kent B. Remley, an assistant professor of radiology and otolaryngology at the university, wrote that the "direction of the skull fracture is inconsistent with the effects of a shotgun wound." Remley also found that the swelling was caused by an external blunt-force instrument. "The degree of soft tissue swelling in the occipital region on the right indicated that the blunt force to the head occurred prior to death," he noted.

Jack Feldman, chairman of the department of physiological science at UCLA, also reviewed the evidence. He summarized his conclusions in a June 20, 1994, written statement included in a Marine Corps report on Sabow's death. "Colonel Sabow was rendered unconscious or immobile by a blow to the head that fractured the base of the skull, causing bleeding into the pharynx. Breathing continued after the injury, aspirating blood into the lung. At some time later, a shotgun was placed in the mouth and triggered (by another party) causing death and obscuring any evidence of prior injury. . . . I conclude that the preponderance of evidence does not support the finding that Colonel James E. Sabow died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound."

Ron Brown and Niko Jerkic

On April 3, 1996, Commerce Secretary Ron Brown and 34 others were killed when their Air Force Boeing 737 crashed into a mountainside in Croatia. One day after the crash, before any real investigation had begun, Defense Secretary William Perry told the Associated Press that the plane crash was "a classic sort of accident that good instrumentation should be able to prevent." The Air Force soon agreed and, in its ensuing investigation, determined that the tragic event was due to navigational error. Since that time, certain anomalies and evidence have come to light regarding the crash:

· Ron Brown was found with a .45-inch inwardly beveling circular hole in the top of his head, which resembled a gunshot wound. Despite this suspicious wound, the Air Force medical examiners decided not to order an autopsy.

· Normally in plane crash investigations there is a two step process. The Air Force first determines whether the crash was the result of an accident, hostile fire, sabotage, or mechanical failure. In Ron Brown's case, this determination (called a safety board) was skipped. Instead, the Air Force immediately proceeded to the second part of the investigation, where only accident and legal issues are considered.

· The Air Force reported that a navigation beacon had been stolen from the airport sometime before the crash. This led some to speculate that the pilot may have been intentionally drawn off course and into the mountainside by a spurious beacon.

· Three days after the the crash, Niko Jerkic--the man who was responsible for maintaining the airport's navigational aids--died by gunshot. This was ruled a suicide. Jerkic's untimely death meant that investigators did not have a chance to question him.

Ron Brown's struggles with the hawks in the military and intelligence agencies began almost from the moment that he assumed the post of Commerce Secretary. An Associated Press article reported: "With the Cold War over, Brown believed the United States no longer should sacrifice economic interests to other foreign policy goals and he used his close friendship with Clinton to push a business agenda inside the administration.... He succeeded in battles with the Defense Department in loosening Cold War-era export controls that American companies had long complained severely limited their ability to sell high-technology products such as computer and telecommunications equipment."(4)

Ron Brown was not alone in his quest to ease export restrictions. Brown's allies even included conservative organizations, like the American Chamber of Commerce, which stated in its White Paper: "Experience has shown...that unilateral export controls are ineffective, except where the United States may have a pronounced lead over the rest of the world.... [With export controls] U.S. companies are put at a significant disadvantage vis-a-vis their foreign competitors, without achieving the desired effect of blocking access to technology."(5)

However, the military establishment remained unconvinced. When the Clinton administration proposed that primary control over the export of commercial satellites be transferred from the State Department to Ron Brown's Commerce Department, the military balked. In a memo dated September 22, 1995, the Pentagon and U.S. intelligence agencies are on record as rejecting the administration's plan to transfer authority to Commerce. Also opposed was Secretary of State Warren Christopher.(6)

That same year, congressional Republicans would draft legislation to dismantle the Department of Commerce. The Republicans would fail in this endeavor, but not for lack of trying. According to Gary Hufbauer, a trade expert, "The force of Brown's personality was one of the major factors that saved the department."(8)

On March 14, 1996--in defiance of the military and intelligence agencies--the Clinton administration transferred control of satellite sales from the State Department to Ron Brown's Commerce Department. Twenty days later Ron Brown would lose his life.

Spinning a Conspiracy Theory

It is also interesting to note that a lot of money was used in the effort and that a right-wing, CIA-connected Pittsburgh billionaire, Richard Mellon Scaife--heir to the Mellon family banking fortune--was behind much of it. Steve Kangas, a journalist and former intelligence analyst, gives some background on Scaife:

One of [the CIA's 1973] recruits was billionaire Richard Mellon Scaife. During World War II, Scaife's father served in the OSS, the forerunner of the CIA. Scaife was encouraged by CIA agent Frank Barnett to begin investing his fortune to fight the "Soviet menace." From 1973 to 1975, Scaife ran Forum World Features, a foreign news service used as a front to disseminate CIA propaganda around the world.(1)

At Forum World Features, Scaife conducted what his CIA friend, Frank Barnett calls "political warfare." Barnett explains:

Political warfare in short, is warfare--not public relations. It is one part persuasion and two parts deception.... The aim of political warfare...is to discredit, displace, and neutralize an opponent, to destroy a competing ideology, and to reduce the adherents to political impotence. It is to make one's own values prevail by working the levers of power, as well as by using persuasion.(2)

Scaife has carried his political warfare campaign into the present day. His instrument of dissemination is no longer a foreign news service. Instead Scaife utilizes two Internet websites (NewsMax and WorldNetDaily), a newspaper (Pittsburgh Tribune-Review), along with conservative foundations and think tanks. Steve Kangas writes:

Today [Scaife] owns the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review and oversees the Sarah Scaife, Carthage and Allegheny Foundations. Scaife assigned one of his newspaper's reporters, Christopher Ruddy, to a full-time, ongoing investigation into the deaths of Vince Foster and Ron Brown, trying to find evidence that the Clintons murdered them.(3)

Ron Brown case. Ruddy was persuasive in arguing that there were some strange and suspicious aspects to the plane crash. Ruddy was also persuasive when he pointed out that Ron Brown had been involved in various controversies during his term as Commerce Secretary. However, Ruddy was deceptive when he omitted the fact that the biggest.

Baxter, J. Clifford: 43, was found shot to death in his Mercedes Benz in the early hours of Friday morning, January 25, 2002 near his home in Sugar. The weapon was a .38 caliber revolver which was found in Baxter's car, next to his body.

Baxter quit as vice chairman of the company last May 2001 , after reportedly come into conflict with other top executives over the phony accounting gimmicks used to plunder billions of dollars.

According to the Times account, the unnamed associate added that Baxter "was talking about perhaps needing a bodyguard. That a man only two days away from suicide would be considering hiring a bodyguard defies belief. But neither the Times nor any other media outlet has raised the possibility that Baxter felt his life to be in danger because of what he knew and could divulge about the internal affairs of Enron.

A potential whistle-blower dies less than two weeks after his name first comes to public attention.

Baxter received a subpoena from the Senate Government Affairs Subcommittee on Permanent Oversight and Investigation. Under such conditions, the sudden death of a crucial witness inevitably raises the suspicion that it is not just pieces of paper and computer data that are being destroyed to protect the corporate and political gangsters at the top, but human lives as well.

The circumstances of Baxter's life cast doubt on the verdict of suicide. He is not known to have been suffering from depression or any other mental health problem. He was a multimillionaire, having netted $30 million from the sale of his stock in Enron. His family life was apparently happy, and he leaves a wife and two children, a 16-year-old son and 11-year-old daughter.

Kokal, John J. : State Department's Bureau of Intelligence and Research Near
East and South Asian division (INR/NESA), John J. Kokal, 58, was found dead
in the late afternoon of November 7, 2003 . Police indicated he may have jumped
from the roof of the State Department. Kokal's body was found at the bottom
of a 20 foot window well, 8 floors below the roof of the State Department
headquarters near the 23rd and D Street location.

Kokal's INR bureau was at the forefront of confronting claims that Iraq
possessed weapons of mass destruction.

His wife Pamela, a public affairs specialist in the Bureau of
Western Hemisphere Affairs, was waiting for him in the parking garage. Mrs.
Kokal had previously worked in Consular Affairs where she was involved in
the stricter vetting of visa applicants from mainly Muslim countries after
the Sept. 11 attacks.

State Department officials dispute official State Department communiqués
that said Kokal was not an analyst at INR. People who know Kokal told the
French publication Geopolitique that Kokal was involved in the analysis of
intelligence about Iraq prior to and during the war against Saddam Hussein.

Another INR official, weapons expert Greg Thielmann, said he and INR were
largely ignored by Under Secretary for Arms Control and International
Security John Bolton and his deputy, David Wurmser, a pro-Likud
neo-conservative who recently became Vice President Dick Cheney's Middle
East adviser. Kokal's former boss, the recently retired chief of INR, Carl
W. Ford, recently said that Bolton often exaggerated information to steer
people in the wrong directions.

William Colby: This former CIA director disappeared in an apparent boating accident, and a body was later discovered (minus the life jacket Colby's friends insisted he always wore while boating) and buried promptly. John DeCamp, a lawyer from Lincoln, Nebraska, and Colby's close friend and confidant, said Colby's death was not an accident. He stated that Colby was prepared to disclose that missing P.O.W.'s were working for a dope smuggling operation orchestrated by General Colin Powell, Pentagon official Richard Armitage, and George H. W. Bush.

Mrs. E. Howard Hunt: In December 1972, while George H. W. Bush was at the Republican National Convention, a United Airlines flight carrying Mrs. E. Howard Hunt, CIA operative and wife of Howard Hunt, (CIA officer) crashed. Believed to be carrying $25,000 in "hush money", she died in this crash.

Charles M. McKee and Matthew Gannon

Charles M. McKee, ostensibly a military attache for the CIA in Beirut, Matthew Gannon, CIA Deputy Station Chief in Beirut, and three others were on board Pan Am Flight 103, which exploded over Lockerbie, Scotland. They were part of a counterterrorist team in Beirut investigating the possible rescue of 9 American hostages in Lebanon. The McKee team uncovered evidence that a rogue CIA unit called COREA, based in Wiesbaden, was doing business with a man called Monzer Al-Kassar, a Syrian arms dealer and drug trafficker. Al-Kassar was part of the covert network run by LTC. Oliver North. Outraged that the COREA unit in Wiesbaden was doing business with a Syrian who had close terrorist connections and might endanger their chances of rescuing the hostages, the McKee team decided to fly back to Virginia unannounced and expose the COREA unit's secret deal with al-Kassar. They never got there.

Don McCoy: Mr. McCoy had agreed the day before to turn state's evidence in an FBI investigation that threatened some of El Paso's most prominent business leaders. On February 19, 1988, he took off from El Paso International Airport, banked to the right and headed southwest for approximately 2 * miles before it slammed into the I-10 right-of-way and exploded. With him was his secretary and her 11-year old son. All three were killed.

Steve Kangas: His web site, Liberalism Resurgent, was meticulously researched and presented such a problem to the "real boss" of George Bush, Richard Scaife, that he hired a private detective to look into Kangas' past. Steve Kangas was found in a 39th-floor bathroom outside of Scaife's offices at One Oxford Centre, in Pittsburgh, an apparent suicide. Mr. Kangas, a very prolific writer, left no note. He had brought a fully-packed suitcase of clothes with him to Pittsburgh. He bought a burglar alarm shortly before he left for Pittsburgh. Why did he need a burglar alarm if he was going to commit suicide? An avowed advocate of gun control, he nevertheless bought a gun. What was he afraid of? Why did he go to Pittsburgh? After his death, his computer was sold for $150 and its hard drive wiped clean. Everything in his apartment was thrown away.

Mario Ruiz Massieu: An apparent suicide. He was facing charges that he laundered money for the cocaine cartels. A Houston, Texas jury had found that $8 million in his Houston Commerce Bank accounts was paid to him by drug cartels.

Adler Berriman "Barry" Seal

He was supposedly murdered by Medellin cartel members, but a 6-month investigation by Sam Dalton, attorney for three of the accused murderers, into Mr. Seal's life and death uncovered some interesting points. The accused's cartel connections were well known, but not their association with Oliver North's enterprise. Mr. Seal was a drug smuggler, up to his armpits in smuggling cocaine for the CIA.

From 1980 till 1984, I flew about 25 successful illegal flights from South America and airdropped the loads averaging 300 kilos of cocaine each into Louisiana. Seal retrieved the loads and sent them to the cartel owners in Miami and Los Angeles. The cocaine was owned by the Medellin Cartel and they paid Seal a fee 5,000 dollars per kilo. After being caught in Operation Screamer, Seal turned informant and performed two undercover stings for the government.

The Louisiana based Federal Government double-crossed Seal in Louisiana and placed him on a silver platter for the Medellin Cartel to carry out a contract hit by placing Seal unprotected in a Salvation Army halfway house in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Seal was machine gunned to death at six p.m. while sitting in his car in the parking lot of the halfway house on Feb. 19, 1986.

One of his first tasks was to catch the Sandinistas in the act. So he took his C-123K cargo plane to the CIA, which installed a hidden camera in it. Seals flew the wired plane to Nicaragua and allegedly took some pictures - he said the camera malfunctioned and he had to operate it by hand - of a purported Sandinista official loading cocaine onto the plane. The CIA and Oliver North decided to blow Seal's cover and use the pictures as anti-Sandinista propaganda. The story appeared in the Washington Times, and President Reagan displayed the picture on national television in an attempt to get Congress to restore aid to the Contras.

Seal had been busy training Contras at his new base of operations in Mena, Arkansas. At least seven pilots have told reporters of Seal's work with the Contras. The last one to go public, Terry Reed, said he was introduced to Seal by Oliver North.

The federal government also went after Bill Duncan, an agent with the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Division, who was investigating the flow of drug money through Barry Seal's operations. When Duncan was called to testify before the House Subcommittee on Crime regarding federal interference in Arkansas and Louisiana police investigations of Seal, he was ordered by one of his IRS superiors to perjure himself if he were asked questions about Seal's relationship to then-Attorney General Ed Meese and whether Meese had ordered evidence withheld from a federal grand jury investigating activities at Mena, Arkansas. Duncan resigned over the matter, after 17 years with the IRS.

Another investigator probing into Seal's operations was Gene Wheaton, the former Pentagon criminal investigator who went to work for the Christic Institute after parting company with Oliver North and Richard Secord. Wheaton said he tracked Seal's C-123K cargo plane flying from Mena to William Blakemore's Iron Mountain Ranch in West Texas. (There is also an Iron Mountain in Arkansas near Seal's Contra training grounds.)

All three of the Colombians who went on trial always told us—their lawyers—that they were being directed, after they got into this country, on what to do and where to go by an `anonymous gringo,' a United States Military officer, who they quickly figured out was Oliver North,' Sharpstein says." (Ibid.; p. 438.)

21. " `Say that again?' we asked. We were sure we'd heard it right the first time; we just needed confirmation. . . `Once they rendezvoused together in the States,' explained Sharpstein, `they, the Colombians, were being directed, by phone, by a man who insisted on remaining anonymous, but who did identify himself as being an officer in the American military. . . They were put in touch with this officer through Rafa (a Colombian smuggler) who was the guy my client worked for. And they all believed that it was Oliver North.'" (Idem.)

In the official version of events recounted in newspapers, the killers were always described as a `three-man hit team of Colombian nationals.' Even a cursory reading of the headlines revealed, to our amazement, there weren't, hadn't been, three men involved. . .there had been eight. Three men may be a hit `team. Eight is a hit `squad.'

In addition to the Colombian execution team, Jose Coutin was implicated in the murder. (For more about Coutin, see "http://www.spitfirelist.com/rfa.html"—available from Spitfire.) "Six men had been arrested at various stages of attempting to flee the scene. A seventh, Rafa Cardona, who had dispatched the team, was safely ensconced in Colombia. . . at least for a while. He was charged in absentia for planning the hit, but was himself mowed down, in a spray of automatic gunfire inside his antique car dealership, in Colombia later that year. Then there was the `eighth man,' Miami CIA `asset' Jose Coutin, who had supplied the machine gun.

Testimony at the trial of the three accused of killing Seal revealed that Renteria had been the cut-out between Coutin, known to be linked to Oliver North, and the shooters, to whom he delivered the weapons from Coutin.

One of the most dramatic of the disclosures in Barry and the Boys concerns what Seal's lawyer Lewis Unglesby revealed about who was controlling Barry Seal's operations—then Vice-President George Bush! " `Barry pushed the phone across the desk to me and said, `You wanna know what's going on? Here. Dial this number. Tell `em you're me,' Unglesby related. `When I did what he requested,' he continued, `A female voice answered the phone, saying, `Vice President Bush's office, may I help you?' `I said, `This is Barry Seal.' She asked me to wait while she transferred the call, which was immediately picked up by a man who identified himself as Admiral somebody or other, who said to me, `Barry! Where you been?'" (Ibid.; p. 442.)

Seal was trying to get George H.W. Bush to get the IRS off his back. He allegedly threatened to blow the whistle on the whole Contra scheme, including the complicity of the US government and the Reagan administration in the massive cocaine influx that bedeviled the US in the 1980's. " `That's when I told him that I wasn't Barry Seal, I was his lawyer,' said Unglesby. `Immediately he slammed down the phone.' `So why was Barry Seal murdered?' we asked Miami attorney Richard Sharpstein,

. `Unglesby said he had been with Seal when the IRS came and seized all his property,' Sharpstein related. `The IRS man said, `You owe us $30 million for the money you made in drug dealing.' `Hey, I work for you,' was Seal's reply. `We work for the same people.' `You don't work for us,' the IRS agent stated. `We're the IRS.'"

" `Unglesby was with Seal when he retired to a back room,' Sharpstein. `He watched as Seal placed a call to George Bush. He heard Barry Seal tell Bush: `If you don't get these IRS assholes off my back I'm going to blow the whistle on the Contra scheme.' Sharpstein spoke solemnly, aware of the gravity of his words. . . `That's why he's dead,' is what Unglesby said.'"

"One week after the phone conversation between Barry Seal and George Bush, Seal was sentenced to a half-way house. Two weeks later he was dead. `But they were fed information by the assholes in our government who wanted him dead.'" (Ibid.; pp. 442-443.)

Two weeks before he died, Barry Seal had hired a private investigator in Miami, Steve Dinerstein, to run FAA title searches on 15 different airplanes he had used in his smuggling Enterprise. . .Seal was getting ready to talk about who had owned his smuggling fleet fifteen years ago." (Ibid.; pp. 444-445.)

"Barry Seal was assassinated because he was getting ready to talk. . . He had even contacted a Paramount Studios production vice-president about making a movie. While the killers approached Barry Seal's Cadillac in the Baton Rouge twilight, Seal had been on his car phone with a CIA aircraft procurement executive in Arizona, Bill Lambeth, who will himself be murdered in Phoenix seven years later.

Hopsicker's account concludes with discussion of a stunning negotiation between the Attorney General of Louisiana—William J. Guste, Jr. and then Vice President George H.W. Bush. They were arranging for Seal to escape prosecution for drug smuggling in Louisiana and for Seal to move his operation to Mena, Arkansas. " .

"We learned that Seal had not attended this meeting. Instead, he sent the Attorney General for the state of Louisiana., William J. Guste, Jr., to argue on his behalf. The Vice President of the United States, George Bush, sat down and cut a deal with the Attorney General of the State of Louisiana—in what amounted to state-to-state-negotiations—about the fate of a Louisiana native CIA agent with a `little problem,' Barry Seal." (Ibid.; p.446.)

There were no fingerprints on the gun. Michael Hand disappeared shortly afterwards, and has not been seen since.

Gary Caradori was investigating Lawrence E. King, Jr., a very influential black Republican who was also a friend of George H.W. Bush. King was director of the Franklin Community Credit Union in Omaha, Nebraska, and was suspected of embezzling $40 million. The Nebraska Senate questioned child prostitutes, who accused King of running a child prostitution ring. One of these children said that she saw George H.W. Bush at one of King's parties. On July 11, 1990, Gary Caradori was killed along with his 6-year old son in the crash of his small plane, after a mid-air explosion, the cause of which was never discovered. He had told friends repeatedly in the weeks before his death that he was afraid his plane would be sabotaged

Jake Horton was the senior vice-president of Gulf Power, a subsidiary of Southern Company, a cohort of Enron in the energy industry, and a major contributer to the Bush agenda. According to reporter Gregory Palast, Horton knew of the company's appalling accounting practices, and "... had no doubt about its illegal campaign contributions to Florida politicans - he'd made the payments himself. In April of 1989 Horton decided to come clean with state officials, and reserved the company jet to go confront company officials. Ten minutes after takeoff the jet exploded.

Olof Palme: He was the prime minister of Sweden, assassinated in 1986. Oliver North, the golden boy of the Bush/Reagan machine, had met with Mr. Palme to discuss the possibility of obtaining false end-user certificates for the plethora of weapons that were being purchased, so that they would seem to have come from a country other than the U.S. Mr. Palme refused to participate, after the plan was presented to him. He was dead within weeks.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The 20th Special Forces Group was a rather extraordinary unit. When it was discovered that the Birmingham-based 20th had sent a detachment of Green Berets to Memphis to carry out an unknown mission on the day Martin Luther King was assassinated, the local paper, The Memphis Commercial Appeal had investigated. They discovered that the 20th was chockfull of veterans of CIA assassination ops in Southeast Asia. The paper quoted a former army counterintelligence major as stating that the 20th had even had a domestic intelligence network, operated for them by the Ku Klux Klan and `Klan Special Forces.' The major said, `The rural South was `in-country' to these guys, and at times things got out of hand.'" (Ibid.; pp. 137-138.)

This series analyzes the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In addition to analyzing the FBI's extended efforts to politically neutralize King, the series discusses the combination of national security and organized crime elements that appear to have performed the assassination. Based on the book Orders to Kill by William Pepper (published by Carroll and Graff in 1995), the series discusses, among other things: an organized crime arms-smuggling ring, which maneuvered accused assassin James Earl Ray into position to take the fall for the crime; the member of that arms-smuggling ring who boasted of actually done the shooting; the Army intelligence program to surveil and neutralize black American leaders (including King); the 20th Special Forces Group "A team" that, according to Pepper, served as a backup sniper team poised to kill Dr. King and his then-aide Andrew Young (in case the organized crime marksman missed); and the apparent role of elements of the National Security Agency in helping to set Ray up for the assassination.
