Which of our national parks are most at risk? Get the facts today! Many national parks have an especially critical need for government funding to protect the land within their borders, and you can see them here:

This special interactive map shows you over 60 national parks where we urgently need to acquire land to prevent private development.

What makes these parks so especially vulnerable is the dangerous presence of saleable private land in or adjacent to our public parkland. Land that could be put on the market any day, and sold to the highest bidder for private homes, or worse!
The Land and Water Conservation Fund, established in 1964, is supposed to allocate funds to purchase such lands to prevent private development like "McMansions" and strip malls from ever taking place. But funding for this critical program has fallen woefully short:
- In 1999, Congress allocated $147 million to acquire private lands for our parks.
- By 2008, that number had been cut to only $44 million.
- Today, many national parks are at risk of having private development within their boundaries!
Simply by restoring funding to 1999 levels, Congress could take a huge step toward preventing private development in our parks. As little as an additional $50 million could help our National Park Service protect our most vulnerable parks!
We're fighting on Capitol Hill to ensure adequate funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund. But we can't do it alone.
We know you're someone who treasures our national parks, and who would hate to see commercial development take place within our park boundaries.
Our park rangers have identified these "for sale" parcels of land as the most significant potential threat to the sanctity of our parks. They know what a disaster it would be to see private development right alongside our national treasures... and so do you!
Please become a member of NPCA today. A gift of $25 or more can help support our critical efforts on Capitol Hill. Our parks are extremely vulnerable to development, but Congress can fix this problem by allocating appropriate funding.
We need you to join us and support this critical effort!
Please become a member now to help NPCA convince members of Congress to support the Land and Water Conservation Fund. Thank you for taking action!
Sincerely,

Ronald J. Tipton
Senior Vice President for Programs
National Parks Conservation Association
P.S. What parks are affected by the continued underfunding of the Land and Water Conservation Fund? You can see the map here that highlights more than 60, including ten national park examples of what could be lost if we fail to act. Please check it out for yourself, and then make a generous online gift to help support NPCA’s urgent efforts to fight for funding in Congress. Thank you.
