FURTHERMORE. . .

CBS - Its own auditors admit the military cannot account for 25 percent
of what it spends. "According to some estimates we cannot track $2.3
trillion in transactions," Rumsfeld admitted. $2.3 trillion - that's
$8,000 for every man, woman and child in America. To understand how the
Pentagon can lose track of trillions, consider the case of one military
accountant who tried to find out what happened to a mere $300 million.
"We know it's gone. But we don't know what they spent it on," said Jim
Minnery, Defense Finance and Accounting Service.

JOHN GEAR: Yes, you're absolutely right on the guns. But please remind
your readers of the firearm insurance idea---it's not enough to say that
everyone has a right to have a gun, unless people who wish to remain
unarmed also have some security (or at least the possibility of
compensation from the harm guns can cause).

THE CALIFORNIA NURSES ASSOCIATION, and its national arm, the National
Nurses Organizing Committee has joined the AFL-CIO, uniting 325,000
registered nurses into the leading voice of America's working people.
CNA/NNOC represents 75,000 RNs in all 50 states. Significantly, the
affiliation came two days after the Federation adopted a sweeping new
healthcare policy statement endorsing a single-payer type system
premised on 'updating and expanding Medicare benefits' to all Americans.

FIRE - San Francisco State University is putting the College Republicans
on trial for hosting an anti-terrorism rally at which participants
stepped on makeshift Hezbollah and Hamas flags. University officials
have alleged that the students desecrated the name of Allah, which is
written on both flags in Arabic script. The student group's leadership
contacted the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education for help
when they first learned of the school's investigation. "SFSU must call
off this hearing immediately," FIRE President Greg Lukianoff said. "The
College Republicans engaged in unequivocally protected political
expression, and it strains all credibility to think the SFSU
administration does not know this. There is nothing to try or
investigate here other than protected expression." Unbeknownst to the
protestors, the flags they had copied contain the word "Allah" written
in Arabic script. On October 26, a student filed a formal complaint with
the university against the College Republicans, alleging "attempts to
incite violence and create a hostile environment" and "actions of
incivility."

NEWS 7, DENVER - Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper ordered that City
Attorney Larry Manzanares be placed on "investigatory leave" after
learning that a stolen laptop computer was found in Manzanares' home.
The mayor is also requesting an independent, outside investigation in
the case. Manzanares spoke exclusively with 7 News investigator Tony
Kovaleski. Kovaleski asked the former judge, "How did you obtain the
computer?" Manzanares replied, "Well, rather foolishly, and I'm
embarrassed to admit it, but I bought it from a guy in a parking lot."
Sources tell 7NEWS the computer belonged to Denver District Court and it
was reported stolen from the court, inside the City and County building.
Manzanares told Kovaleski that police used Internet tracking and
ultimately discovered that the computer was in use inside Manzanares'
home.

BOSTON GLOBE - Nearly 6 in 10 State Police officers who work full time
at Logan International Airport or on the Massachusetts Turnpike made
more last year than either the governor, the state attorney general, or
the Suffolk district attorney. Like all troopers, those assigned to
patrol Logan and the turnpike profited by lucrative construction
details, overtime shifts, and educational bonuses. But unlike all other
troopers, those at Logan and the turnpike received daily reimbursements
for driving their own cars to work. And they benefited last year from
extra work directing traffic around detours caused by the fatal Big Dig
tunnel collapse and providing security at the airport during an elevated
terrorism alert. Of the 320 troopers permanently assigned to Logan and
the turnpike, at least 185 -- or 58 percent -- made more last year than
the $140,535 governor's salary and at least 37 topped $200,000 in
earnings, according to a Globe analysis of payroll information obtained
under the state public records law. Of the state's 2,338 other troopers,
225, or about 10 percent of the total force, made more than the governor
last year.

YNET NEWS - The Israeli market sustains an astronomical yearly loss of
$1.5 billion because of its failure to employ Arab women, according to
research by the Musawa Center for Arab Rights in Israel. The data
collected for the research show that only 18 percent of Arab women are
part of the workforce in Israel, as opposed to 56 percent of Jewish
women, and 59 percent of Arab men. The average annual income for an Arab
citizen in Israel is about $7,700, while the average annual income for a
Jewish citizen in the country is about $19,000.
