THE FORMER NORM COLEMAN

CELEB STONER - Just over a month ago, NORML board member Norm Kent asked
CelebStoner to publish an open letter to Sen. Norm Coleman challenging
the Minnesota Congressman's anti-marijuana stance. Kent and Coleman both
attended Hofstra University from 1968-1971, where they were friends, pot
smokers and student activists against the Vietnam War.

Last Friday, Kent fired another salvo at Coleman during an appearance on
NORML Audio Stash:

"This is a guy who was hippie freak leader of the Students for a
Democratic Society that helped take over buildings protesting an unjust
war in Vietnam who is now a cleaned-up Republican Senator who's had his
teeth done, his hair styled and his face remodeled to look like the
classic politician that he once opposed...

"The very laws he votes to enforce today would've kept him from going to
law school and knocked him out of college today. We both got federal
student loans in the '60s and '70s. Yet today's laws that Norm Coleman
votes for would deny students with pot convictions federal student
loans. That's the essence of hypocrisy The laws that we broke back then
could have put us in jail and stopped us from ever becoming members of
the bar and lawyers and senators. What future senator or congressman is
Norm Coleman blocking today from being a congressman tomorrow because of
behavior he himself did yesterday?
